Day One
~"I'm being fucking serious. We only just got out, I'm not going back in. Move your ass now or I'm leaving you here," Keigo hissed. It wasn't his fault he was tense - it was the fear and the panic of everything. He could still hear the sirens' wails, getting louder by the second.
"Just wait, would you? I just need two seconds," Touya managed. He sucked in a deep breath only to cough it out, bright red splatters of blood staining the wet bricks. Hawks frowned. Obviously there was no way he'd leave Touya here, but he really was struggling to run. His smoking habit had started years ago and the consequences of it were evident.
Hawks bit his lip as Touya let go of the wall he was using to support himself and staggered as he tried to stand up straight. He clutched his head - not a good sign, and tripped over a rock as he took a step forward. Keigo instantly caught him, lightly pressing him against the wall. He placed his hands on the other man's shoulders and pushed him down, so Touya was sitting with his back leaning on the wall. Blood dribbled down his scarred chin, and his snowy hair was soaked, but he didn't shiver once due to his fiery quirk, unlike Keigo. Keigo had been gifted with great crimson wings, though they had to be clipped short every 2-3 days - unnecessary and a nuisance, in his opinion.
"Keigo, no, I'm fine now. We've got to keep moving. You were just saying a minute ago-"
"I know. I know what I said, but you can't go anywhere right now. Not like this. You're right, it is bad, so you've got to rest.”
"In the pouring rain? No offence, but this isn't very ideal."
"You think I don't know that?" Keigo retorted. He looked intensely at Touya whose eyes were looking everywhere but his face - it was an instinct now, looking around for shelter or places to hide. Keigo desperately needed to find somewhere they could stay, though they didn't have any money. They had no phone, no ID, no normal clothes, not even a raincoat to cover themselves with, they had absolutely nothing, and the bright orange jumpsuits wouldn't help with finding a place to stay either. Who'd help two convicts? An almost-murderer, and the son of a murderer. What a pair.
"So this is great. Just great." Touya raised his head to the sky and squinted as the large drops of rain fell onto his face. "I'm going to get us caught. Again. All because I can't give up smoking."
"Dude, last time wasn't your fault. Now shut up and wait here. I'm...I'm gonna find us someplace.” Keigo stood up, and Touya glanced at him, his eyes heavy with exhaustion.
“Impossible,” he said. Keigo pretended not to hear him and went to the end of the alleyway, his heart dropping as he heard his friend cough roughly. He knew he shouldn't leave Touya there but he was only slowing him down, if he were to find a place to stay, he needed to do it fast before the cops reached them.
The rain had subsided by now, and Keigo slicked his wet hair back as he slinked through the streets, keeping in the shadows. He made sure not to go far in case something happened to Touya and he had to rush back, but the sirens were still a distance away.
Keigo began trying every back door of the buildings along the street. The side doors, the emergency exits - no luck. With one of them he tried ramming his shoulder into it - hoping to maybe do a quick hit and run burglary, but to his utmost surprise, it opened faster than he could react.
There in the small gap of the open door stood a lizard man, or was he a turtle? Probably a lizard - as far as Keigo could see, there was no shell, but he had scaly green skin and slits for pupils, along with sharp claws on his fingers. Around his neck hung a pair of headphones, the ones used for gaming.
He looked him Keigo and down, evidently surprised from the bright clothes of the winged man, but he didn't seem to be afraid, like a normal person would be if they saw an escaped convict trying to break in.
“Who the fuck? What do you want?”
Keigo took a deep breath, realising he hadn't prepared what he was going to say. “I just wanna clear my name. I was, uh...framed.” The reptilian narrowed his eyes suspiciously, shaking his head as he began to close the door. Keigo stuck his foot in the gap, persisting because this was the only door that was open, and he wasn't going to give up now. “Come on man, help a guy out. I won't bother you, I just need a bed for the night and I'm good.”
The lizard man wasn't visible, but Keigo heard a heavy sigh and he was filled with sudden hope. Soon the door opened again, though not fully, only halfway.
“Wait right there.”
The door was shut in his face. Was Lizard Man not the only person in the building? Did he have ‘roomates’? Someone of a higher tier to speak to? If he had refused, Keigo wasn't afraid of taking down one guy to get a room, but a group? He could fight for sure, but he'd need Touya if things got out of hand. Now he was almost nervous.
The door opened again and Lizard Man appeared, widening the gap just enough for Keigo to squeeze in, but he wouldn't move.
“What? Changed your mind?”
“Actually...” Keigo rubbed the back of his neck. “I have a friend.”
And that was how it all began.
