Touya had decided to go out for the day, just to do something productive. He didn't feel comfortable around the people at the bar without Keigo, since he could make friends and chat easily with anyone. Touya was antisocial, the guy who would stay in the corner with a drink at parties, the guy who would prefer not to ask someone for directions if they were lost, the guy who kept his most of his private life to himself.
Keigo was the outgoing friend who would force him to talk to people, give him advice - even when he was being petty - and occasionally get him to open up about his past, since apparently, explaining your feelings and all that bullshit, wasn't actually bullshit. Keigo said it can make you feel better to talk to someone about your mood, so now, Touya used Keigo as his problem solver, and often complained to him about Endeavor, because as well as a good speaker, Keigo was a careful listener - when he wasn't being immature - and he was always up for one of Touya's rants, anyway.
So, as Touya walked down the street completely emo-fied - yes, emo-fied: black sunglasses, mask, jacket and jeans just like Keigo had said - he sighed through his nose with a small smile. Keigo was just…great.
Yeah. He was great.
Touya thought about how he hadn't actually planned where he would be going, as he watched a group of young teenage boys on bikes doing wheelies in the middle of the road. They laughed at each other and shouted rude words whenever a car drove past or honked their horn. Touya rolled his eyes at them - he knew they were just fakes, pretending to be hard when they weren't. All bark and no bite. In his days of being on the run with Keigo, he had come across many gangs similar to them, and the two men were now experts in telling whether they had to be genuinely cautious or not.
Up ahead, Touya saw the local train station, and an idea popped into his mind.
Not long after, he was riding the train to Musutafu. Maybe an old trip down memory lane would help him decide whether he wanted to visit his family or not.
Probably the worst thing about subways was that they smelled. It wasn't the actual trains making the smell, since Japan's workers did their very best in making sure everywhere you went was clean as can be, but it was just the smell of everyone. Gas, sweat, perfume and strong cologne were not nice combinations.
At least Touya had a place to sit. Which he did, gladly. He opened his new phone - he had hardly used it since Keigo got it for him a few days ago - but now he went to the music app and put on some tunes. While snooping once he had found an unused pair of earphones in Spinner's room, and put those in his ears, letting Halsey and Nirvana fill his brain.
Almost an hour later he got off the train, squinting when the daylight stung his eyes as he reached normal ground level. He stood at the top of the stairs, taking in his surroundings. Faint memories crawled into his mind but they weren't vivid enough. He still recognized most buildings though.
A man from behind pushed past him with a grumble as he was blocking the entrance to the subway, so Touya began his walk, recalling the sights. Most he didn't recognise due to being cooped up inside for training and being away in prison for so long, but he did see the middle school he and his siblings used to go to - Touya had never really made it to high school. The next school term he would have been starting but he ran away before he did, so new teachers and classmates wouldn't miss him.
But middle school was terrible, the teachers paid no real mind to his burns, they only ever asked if he needed to go to the infirmary to show that they weren't completely ignoring him; it was really just to get him out of the way, since he was a bother to teach in class. He never payed attention and when assigned a task, he'd always ask the said instructions twice, irritating the teachers.
