-reader's pov-
"sarah chapman," enola entered through the doorway, "the girl I'm looking for has proof that girls are dying from the phosphorus they work with everyday and the factory are trying to cover it up as typhus. she knows it, and someone is going to kill her for it."
"then what can we do?" tewkesbury inquired
"we?" enola repeated until another knock came from the door, this one being more louder and forceful.
"-don't open it." enola warned, "it could be the police."
"you're still wanted by them?" tewkesbury pondered.
"-of course I am." she replied, "I escaped jail."
"oh yeah," tewkesbury and I said under our breaths in realisation. he then headed over to the door, "the lights are on. if I don't answer, they'll suspect more. hide."
enola then scurried off to hide behind a large plant but paused and gave me a look when she saw I didn't follow. "grail is looking for you." she mouthed and I was quick to jog over.
"what?" I whispered as tewkesbury opened the door.
"-grail isn't happy that you weren't able to capture me and also he's mad at you because I escaped, which is pretty stupid but-" enola babbled until I cut her off.
"-he's actually going to murder me." I sighed, looking up to the ceiling exasperatedly.
"what are you doing with tewkesbury, anyway?" enola asked, sounding more serious now as she changed the subject.
"well, I was looking for you but then realised you were sent to prison so I had nowhere to go," I explained, "until tewkesbury came to mind, I remembered him telling me that you and him were old friends."
"-yeah, and of course you go to him." she sneered, rolling her eyes slightly.
"-what?! what do you mean?" I whispered, my eyebrows furrowing, "I had nowhere else-"
"-just leave it, y/n." she muttered, "I know you like him."
I scoffed loudly at this, "you think I like that idiot?"
"-yeah," she replied in a mood, "I think you do, ever since you saw him at that masked ball."
I wasn't mad at enola, I highly doubt she'd understand, "you assume too much, enola."
the person at the door had now left so I returned to the centre of the room with tewkesbury.
"it was lady cicely," he told me, "she was going on about a relationship but she's also the girl who was telling me about some corruption at a factory when we were at the ball."
the mention of this piqued my interest, and I'm sure it'd peak enola's even more. "enola?" I called out to where we were once hiding.
"what do you want?" I heard her snap.
"there's something you might want to hear." I replied and she came storming back into the room, sending an annoyed glance my way.
"u-um, the girl at the door.." tewkesbury began, sensing the tension that was currently held between enola and I, "it was lady cicely and at the masked ball she told me she's working on a bill to change factory law." enola shifted on her feet at this, "she's unearthed something, some corruption or other."
"she's doing what?" enola questioned before slowly pacing around the room, the thoughts suddenly connecting together. "..sarah is cicely." she inhaled sharply, "cicely is sarah!"
