Jennie
"Hi Lisa." I greeted her and smiled. "It's so nice to finally meet you. I'm going to be taking care of you from here on. I hope that we can be friends."
Lisa stared at me with a poker face. She didn't even twitch, not so much as a smile, and just continued to gawk at me, like I was a puzzle that she desperately wanted to solve. I now understood what Nichkhun had warned me about his sister being different.
Lucas laughed at my side.
"Lisa, say hi to Jen."
She didn't. Instead, she resumed digging in her plate and stuffing the food furiously in her mouth. I noticed the food that was served to Lisa was different. She was having biscuits and gravy. Nichkhun probably noticed my assessment. "Lisa has a lot of likes and dislikes for food, so our cook, Nan, makes her special meals."
"I see."
"She likes to dine in her room sometimes, and when she does, I would like to request for you to keep her company."
"Of course." I said and then turned to Sorn on my side, "How old is Lisa?"
"Thirty." She answered. "She's the eldest amongst us."
Well, I'd signed the contract thinking that they hired me to be a nanny for a child or a teenager. Being a nanny to an adult was never the plan.
Guess I didn't have a choice anymore...
The rest of the dinner passed by comfortably, and to be honest, I enjoyed being here, becoming a part of a family that's so classy and wealthy. For someone like me, this was a privilege that I'd never even dreamed about, to sit amidst them and be included in their conversations. I realised that if I was good at this, and did my job perfectly, Nichkhun won't have a chance to complain and who knows, I might be appointed here permanently.
Before retiring to my bedroom that night, I decided to talk to Sorn, "I think Lisa doesn't really like me."
She laughed like I was being ridiculous. "That's not true. There were over three-hundred applicants for this job, and she chose you."
She chose me?
"I don't understand." I admitted, "What do you mean, she chose me?"
"Well, she pointed at your picture and told us that she wants you as her nanny." She explained. "And Nichkhun thought why not, so he interviewed you over the phone, and Lisa listened in on the conversation." She patted my shoulder. "It's going to take some time, don't worry about it. She likes you."
"She can talk, right?"
"Yes, she can. Well, I don't blame you for thinking that she doesn't. Most people who meet her think that way. She just chooses her time to speak."
"Please don't take my enquiring in any wrong way, Sorn. I just wanted to get to know her better. How did she lose her memories?"
"The boating accident." She said, "She hit her head but was lucky to have survived. The doctors say that Lisa may never regain her memories."
"Oh!"
I felt sorry for Lisa. She had been born into a privileged family with more wealth than she could use in a lifetime, but tragedy had stolen everything away from her.
"I have to accompany Nichkhun to a conference early tomorrow morning. I should head to bed soon."
"Sure. Sorry to keep you up. I've had a long day today."
"No problem, and goodnight, sweetie."
"Goodnight." I said.
"Oh, and Jen..."
"Yeah?"
"Lock your bedroom door when you sleep."
