Jennie
I had always wondered what it would be like when Lisa regained her memories. Many scenarios played in my mind and my answers to every conversation that we would have, but the reality was completely different. Nothing had prepared me for this.
Nichkhun had lectured me about following his rules, but my eyes were trailed on my newly awoken spouse. Lisa had sat through the grilling without a word, and Nichkhun had assumed this to be one of Lisa's usual oblivious behaviours. Then, I'd gone straight to our bedroom, and I was thinking of what I was supposed to do now that she was really back.
I was quite certain that she had regained her memories unless I'd imagined what had happened downstairs and it was all in my head. Her face had morphed completely, like she finally knew what was happening around her and I would be lying if I said that I wasn't remotely intimidated.
I was in the bedroom, over-analysing everything that had happened during the car ride. I'd zoned out, and Lisa had been silent throughout the entire way home.
And then I heard it, the footsteps coming closer to the bedroom.
Cold-sweat broke over my neck as I felt her presence behind me. I knew that she was standing there.
What if she wanted a divorce?
It would completely shatter my heart, but it was a possibility that I couldn't deny. As much as I loved the innocent, caring, and sweet Lisa, I knew that the real version of her was a different person. She was someone with a high social standing, rich and powerful. And my family background cannot even compare to that.
Nichkhun had gotten me married to Lisa as some form of a twisted revenge, and if not for that, I'd just be another employee in this house.
So if Lisa told me that she wanted a divorce, I would give it to her.
But I would first tell her about my feelings. I loved her wholeheartedly, and I was ready to accept the new person that she was. The money didn't matter to me. I just wanted her safe and loved by people who are true to her.
I owed it to the old Lisa, the one that I'd fallen in love with.
Suddenly, I wished that I'd worn something better. The Lisa that I knew didn't care what I wearing, but I wasn't so sure about this one.
Oh, stop it, Jen. There are no two people.
I was standing by the window, looking outside, when she stepped inside the room and I looked up. She closed the door behind her.
"Jennie." She spoke, while looking directly at me.
"Lisa."
