The plan was for me and Bambam to do nothing.

Yeah, you heard me. Lisa did not want us to be involved while she did whatever that she had planned to do, and so Bambam and I didn't know what was going to happen. She said it was best this way. Nichkhun wouldn't suspect anything and there were zero chances of a fuck-up.

I felt bad for Lisa. It's been like a few hours that she had regained her memories and she was pushed head-first into these responsibilities of trying to save herself from being killed while also protecting me and her brother.

She couldn't even have some respite and really sit down for everything to digest. She didn't even have the luxury to relax for a second. She needed to be on her toes every second of every minute, just because she has some psychopathic half-siblings who were vying for what did not belong to them.

The dinner table had the most epic silence. Lisa didn't take her position at her usual place; she was seated at the head table where she could analyse everyone from her seat. I wasn't stressed any longer. I was contented with this new controlled version of my spouse. She was someone literally out of a fairy tale story. I'd assumed my position beside her.

Her eyes met mine, and she caught me staring. I looked away at once, with colour rising to my cheeks. She leaned in and I got a whiff of her intoxicating perfume. "I don't mind if you keep staring at me."

I laughed, "I'm sorry. It's just... I'm still trying to get used to you being like this."

Lisa nodded in understanding.

Lucas was texting on his phone; I didn't really understand why an eleven-year-old kid was having more liberties than I did. I sneaked a peek at the screen and saw him typing a text to someone under the table.

Lucas: Love you too...

I stared at him with my mouth hanging open. Lucas had a girlfriend in school. I wondered what they did as a couple exactly? Compare their Candy Crush scores? Collect bugs together?

When Nichkhun entered the room, he looked at Lisa and something flickered in his green eyes. A slow grin formed on Nichkhun's face as he looked at his sister. "Well, I'll be damned!" He seemed happy to see his sister. "I don't believe this. Look at you..."

"I do." Lisa said with a chuckle, "I keep looking at myself in the mirror and thanking my good fate that I was born better looking than you."

"Fuck off!" Nichkhun said and then he realised Lucas was there with us, so he said, "I mean buzz off!"

He made his way towards us in a few strides and enveloped Lisa in a hug, and patted her back with a few hard thumps. "It's been difficult without you around, Lisa. I was barely hanging on, you know, with everything, the company, and the family... I'm so damn happy that you're finally back with us, my dearest sister."

It sure looked like he wasn't faking it, and if he was, that was some good acting. An Oscar award-worthy performance.

And then Sorn strutted in, dressed for dinner like she was going for a party. She looked at Lisa and then at Nichkhun. Her bitchy demeanour changed all of a sudden. "Is this really happening?"

"Lisa..." she sniffled. "Do you remember me?"

"Yes, you're the giraffe who escaped from the zoo and keeps loitering in my backyard. I can never forget you, Sorn."

"Oh my God, it's really you, Lisa!" Sorn cried harder, while laughing at the same time as Lisa raised her hand towards Sorn. She made a dead run towards Lisa and into her arms. "I've missed you so so much. We've been waiting for you to remember and come back to us." She cupped Lisa's head in her hands and kissed Lisa's cheek, while crying uncontrollably. "Lili..."

My eyes almost bulged out of their sockets. She called my Lisa, Lili, and I felt like I'd walked into another dimension, one in which we were all part of this daytime soap opera where the main character regains her memories and the family members are shocked out of their socks but also super supportive and lovely. Kind of like a modern Jane Austen book. Happily ever after. The end.

But knowing the nasty truth behind all their facades, this looked more like an episode from 'The Twilight Zone'.

I seriously wished that my life was simple.
