"You're telling me that she didn't run away or commit suicide?" I asked Bambam the very next evening.

"Nope. Mom was a strong person, and she would never do something like that. She cared way too much about us, to abandon us like that. I mean... I was very young, but I remembered how kind and caring she was. She never mistreated the servants the way Nichkhun and Sorn have been doing. The household wasn't even ran in this psychotic manner."

"But the journal indicates that she left, Bambam!"

"Yes, I know. It's her handwriting, but I don't believe it. I don't know what really happened..." He whispered the next words, "But Lisa did. She knew stuff and she was hiding them from me. She probably wants to protect me, because I was still so young back then."

"The journal is strange." I admitted. "It doesn't make sense. If Grace Manoban wanted revenge, why would she suddenly decide to leave everything behind, especially her dearest children?"

"Exactly my point."

"Is Lucas?..."

"He's Lorna's son. We're half-siblings."

"I see. So, after your mother disappeared, Lorna took over control of the household and assumed herself as mistress of the Manoban mansion?"

"Yes. Lisa wasn't at a legal age to inherit the company; she didn't have that kind of authority. After mom left, Lorna moved into the master bedroom that was my mother's... it was fucking torture for us... watching this sleazy and vile woman... a thief walking into our home, wearing my mother's things and trying to take her place. It was disgusting and by that time, Grandpa Marco Snr. had already lost some of his marbles. I was sent to a boarding school far away from here; and Lisa was also shipped off to college."

I listened to him silently. "She came back a few years later, and good for us, because Mom already had the paperwork done up, stating that when Lisa was of a certain age, she was to inherit everything. Nichkhun and Sorn had no right over the Manoban estate or the inheritance money, not even a single piece of the fucking furniture and when the lawyer announced this... you should have seen their faces. And since then, Lisa has been taking care of everything like she should be. This mansion is ours. The Manoban name is ours. Manoban Enterprise belongs to our family. It's both our birth rights. Nichkhun and Sorn are nobody, they are the offspring of thieves who preyed on rich and wealthy families. And the only reason they got you married to Lisa was because they wanted to shame her. They wanted her to be married to a nobody. No offense to you, Jen."

"None taken."

"They thought that since Lisa was helpless and couldn't remember a thing, they would hire a caregiver with no family background or wealth and they plotted to force the caregiver to be married off to Lisa. Because they think that Lisa in her right mind would have never stooped so low as to marry the household help. You get what I'm saying?"

I nodded. They wanted to embarrass her. A business tycoon getting married to a nobody... yeah, they'd basically tarnished her name.

"We have to get to the bottom of this." Bambam said. "Make Lisa remember... keep asking her to remember..."

"I can't do that! She gets upset, and she gets these headaches."

"What headaches?"

"If she tries to remember her past, her head hurts, and her body trembles."

"I don't care. She needs to fucking remember before we're being slaughtered!"

"Did I hear something about slaughtering?" Nichkhun walked into the room with his easy swagger, "You know who gets slaughtered? Pigs... are you a pig, Bambam?"

"I don't talk to motherfucking sleazy assholes."

Nichkhun ignored his brother and turned to me, while tossing an envelope on the coffee table. "I've realised that you and Lisa could use a quick getaway, a honeymoon, since you both never got a chance at all."

"A honeymoon?" I asked.

"Yes. The maids have already packed Lisa's stuff. I've instructed them to pack yours as well. You're flying off to Paris on a private jet. The car will be here in an hour exactly. Sorry, this might be a little sudden, but Lisa was subdued this morning because of her recently frequent episodes. It's not a good sign. I think a change of scenery would do her some good ."

"Yes, but..."

"Shut your mouth and prepare for the trip. Off you go!" He pointed towards the staircase.
