Jennie

She raised her hand, while cutting me off. "Let me finish. My second option is for you to continue to live with me as my wife, but in doing so, you would be exposed to any amount of danger that my family poses in the unforeseen future. While I promise to protect you from them, I know that they will continue to target you, to get to me." She said, "I can't have you become my weakness, Jen. I don't want anyone to hold leverage against me."

"Lisa, I want to stay with you, fight with you, and I promise not to come between whatever you're planning. This is what I want, to continue to be your wife and support you in everything that you do."

She gave me a nod, pleased with what she'd heard.

"What do you want, Lisa?"

"I want you here with me." She said simply, while caressing my cheek.

A weight seemed to have lifted from my shoulders. All those days that I had spent thinking about how we could get out of this situation unscathed, I hadn't been able to sleep at night as I had been constantly worried about Nichkhun's next move and how I could protect Lisa from her depraved family.

The Lisa right now didn't need any protection. This time, she would protect me instead.

There were so many things that I wanted to ask her, so many questions that needed answers to. Her family history, the mysterious death of her parents, and if she remembered who drowned her that night during the boating accident.

She pulled me into a hug, and I buried my face in her chest, so relieved that she was here. Her touch was tender, and the heat of her fingers burned through my skin. "This will all be over very soon." Her fingers thread through my hair. "We're a team."

There was a knock on the door.

"Jen, are you there?" Bambam's voice drifted from the other side.

"Yes, Bambam, come on in."

"Jen... did you..." Bambam started saying and then he looked at Lisa.

Lisa pulled away from our embrace and turned her attention to her brother. She dug her hands in her pockets. The posture. The stance. It was a dead giveaway.

"How have you been holding up, little booger?"

I thought Bambam had stopped breathing for a moment. He kicked the door shut with his foot and exclaimed, "Fuck!"

And for the first time, I saw tears streaming uncontrollably down a strong, foul-mouthed Bambam, who had far too much pride to show his weakness to anyone. At this very moment, he didn't even care that I was standing there and witnessing this side of him. He ran straight into Lisa's arms, who wrapped him in an affectionate hug, more like squeezing the life out of him.

"I never thought my little troublemaker brother would give me such a warm welcome."

"Fuck you! You took too long." Bambam said. "You almost fucking died!"

Lisa looked at the both of us. Her expression was now serious. "Not a word about this to them, alright? I'll handle the rest."

"So good to have you back." Bambam said, while wiping his snot on his sleeve.

"Now." Lisa said, with her face that was ready for battle. "I want you two to listen to me very carefully."
