Chapter 8

"The school foundation is fast approaching and I heard that some of the board of directors is going to visit. We are told that every department should perform for the visitors." Mrs. Reyes, our department head, said.

"I know that Clay, you know how to play the piano right? She asked her

And I saw her nod in response.

"And Sab I know you can sing too, can you do this for the team?" Just one song, okay?" she then asked me.

Everyone looked at me while waiting for my response. As if I have a choice right?

"It's fine with me ma'am" I answered

"Very good then you still have a month to prepare so don't worry about it"

Great! I heaved a deep sigh and throw a glance at her but to my surprise, she is already staring at me. She smiled and I just rolled my eyes. I even heard her chuckle after that.

After Class, Mrs. Reyes called both of us and briefed us about the performance.

We are now walking to the gate when she talks and breaks the silence between us.

"So.... what song do you want to sing?

"Hmm... I will think about it pa."

"Oh okay no pressure," she said

As we reached the school's gate she spoke again, "hmm Sab, can I drive you home? Please?"

There is something in the way she looks at me and the way she talks. I can sense that she wants to tell me something. I'm not dumb not to know what it is but, I just don't know if I'm ready.

I politely declined and saw her go to her car with a face as long as a fiddle.

I got home and prepared my dinner. My fridge is always full because of Jakey and Milly. They will just randomly show up and ask me to cook for them. So they decided to always buy me groceries. I decided to cook chicken adobo for dinner and the leftovers will be eaten tomorrow for breakfast.

As I'm preparing, I got a call from my agency. I got booked for a local clothing brand and guess who I am paired with? Yup, it's Lexie. My agency told me that since the people loved both of us the clothing brand took advantage of it.

As I am about to eat I heard a knock. It's Milly and Jakey when I checked it on the peephole.

"Lakas ng pang amoy niyong dalawa ah pwede na kayong maging sniffing dog! At bakit kayo nandito?" I said while my both hands are on my waist.

"Timing na timing naman pala kami for today's video," Jakey said as he walked to the dining table.

"Chicken adobo? Yasss! I'll get the plates. Jake, get the rice and the adobo na" Milly said looking hungry.

We were in the middle of eating when they asked me about what song I will sing at the foundation day.

"I have two songs in my mind. I saw some covers of it on youtube so I think I can manage to sing it" I said to them

"So what songs are they?"

"Boo'd up by Ella Mai or Can I by Kiana Ledé"

"Both songs are good, you really like R&B songs huh? Milly said.

I just smile in response.

"I suggest you practice both songs para may spare just in case" Jakey added.

"Are you okay with working with her on this?" Milly asked and now both of them are looking at me intently.

"Guys, it's okay. I'm totally fine with it."

"Muling ibalik na ba?" Jakey teased me

"What? No! Of course not!" I said as I throw a chicken bone at him. I know lying is not good but I have to keep this feeling on my own— for now.

"Okay! If you say so" both of them said.

I just rolled my eyes at them and talked about other things. I also told them about the photoshoot with Lexie for a local clothing brand.
