Kellin's Pov.
"C'mon dude, don't be such a buzzkill!" my best friend, Justin yelled.
I could feel the floor I was sitting on vibrating with the bass of the loud music coming from downstairs.
It smelt like alcohol and sweat - the typical high school party. I rolled my eyes at my tipsy friends. I was probably the only sober person in this house.
"I hate truth or dare," I whined.
"Do I look like I care?" Justin snarled, "Please, Kelly, just loosen up a little."
I huffed. "Fine, I choose dare."
I thought, that if I was gonna do this, I could as well make it a bit interesting.
"Mh..." Justin started tapping his chin with his index finger in thought, "oh, I got one!" I raised my eyebrows, waiting for the dare.
"Okay, so I saw this on YouTube. You have to text a random number, we'll see which one, and start a conversation with them, using the first name that comes to your mind. For example: 'Hey, Oscar, long time no talk, how's it going?', or something."
I would've been lying if I said I wasn't kind of relieved, cause most people our age got stupid and very original dares like: "Kiss the first person that tries to talk to you."
I had kissed people before, well, only girls, and I found it extremely disgusting. I was sure I was gay, or at least bi, I couldn't quite put my finger on anything yet.
"I have a cousin, he lives in Cali and I don't really know or like him, but I have his number," Nick, another friend of mine, said, waving his phone in front of Justin's nose, whose lips curled into a devilish smile.
"Alright, I dare you to text him."
I shrugged and typed the number into my phone.
In fact, he did have a different area code. I texted him:
"Sup Jack, I missed u m8"
After only about five minutes, my message said "read", and that he was typing.
"Oml Thomas is it really u?! Dude we haven't talked in ages what've u been up to"
Thomas? What? I got very confused. Was he being sarcastic? Probably. I already found this dude funny. I spent minutes thinking about how to reply when I finally came to a real simple answer.
"Okay this was a dare, bye man, you're cool"
He didn't answer after that, and I quickly forgot about the sarcastic guy from San Diego. I saved him under the name Jack, because, well... why not?
We went on with the game and during the third round, my worst nightmare came true.
"Kiss..." Gabe dragged out the 's' while he was thinking, "Oli."
I had to think about who that was for a second.
"Oli? As in Oliver Sykes?" I asked and Gabe nodded.
I groaned in a weird mix of annoyance and frustration.
"Can't you be a bit more creative for once?" I asked.
"Nope. Now go find him." I reluctantly got up and walked downstairs, making my way through the sea of strangers. I hated ninety-nine percent of the people here, but acted like were friends anyway.
I faked most of my personality around people from school. No, scratch that, I faked all of it. I hated fakers, but I had no choice. My reputation was important to me and I really wanted to stay popular. It made things so much easier. I was on top of the school "food chain", and I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it.
I spent a good ten minutes trying to find Oliver. When I finally found him, he was leaning against a wall, a drink in his hand, talking to some girl who was practically shoving her tits in his face. I rolled my eyes. Poor girl, too drunk to realize Oli liked dick. Yes, Oli was in fact, openly gay. People didn't care. I didn't think it'd be any different for me, but I was scared.
