Chapter 32
--Elspeth--
As I stretched out in my bed and saw Clay lying next to me, looking like a fallen angel, I smiled. Then I frowned.
What was I doing? He was leaving soon, I wasn’t sure when but he was going to be leaving me. Why was I sleeping with a guy that was going to desert me in a couple of days and take my heart with him? I was out of my mind. Maybe it was better to enjoy the time that I had with him rather than regret the time that I didn’t spend with him once he left. I knew that I had to take advantage of the time that I did have with him or I would never forgive myself.
Our bodies were deliciously intertwined, my head in the crook of his neck and our cloth covered chests pressed against one another. The necklace that Clay had given me lay on his heart, the chain moving up and down with his heavy breaths. Our legs were tangled at the end of the bed and I sighed in content and rubbed my foot against his leg. The feel of the skin brushing against mine was enough to make my body heat up but I was spent from the other night.
I looked at the clock to see that I had woken up ten minutes before my alarm clock for school. I wasn’t even sure that I could walk much less attend school. It was going to be distracting for me today especially after the night I had.
“Mmm,” Clay murmured as he started to stir in his sleep. I stopped my movements, wanting him to stay asleep a little while longer so I could admire the structure of his face. I wanted to take in his strong jaw and slightly slanted eyes for as long as I could. He was a gorgeous sight to behold.
His long eyelashes fluttered open and hard milky brown eyes stared straight into mine.
“Good morning.” Clay smiled before stretching out his long body. I moved along with him and I bit my lip to withhold the pleasure-filled smile that was sure to break out on my face if I had thought about his movement too much.
I smiled back. My heart filled with warmth at the sight of his sincere smile. I never thought I could fall for someone so entirely and completely. Even though Clay was going to be leaving me soon, I was happy that I had fallen for him, I knew that he loved me back and I definitely wouldn’t change a thing.
“Were you watching me sleep?” he asked, rubbing at his eyes.
I nodded, “You look so relaxed when you’re sleeping, almost like an angel.”
Clay chuckled.
“What?” I asked. I placed my chin on chest and looked down at his amused expression.
“It’s just ironic that you would say that because I always thought of you as my own little angel.”
I nearly melted into a puddle of wax. He was so sweet.
“Well I already have a nickname for you, so why don’t you make that your nickname for me?” I suggested with a meek voice.
Clay was silent as he pulled a piece of dark hair from my face and trailed his fingers down my face. I took in a sharp breath; his fingers do wonders to my skin. “I guess I’ll just have to retire your old nickname Arden, I’ll be calling you Angel from now on.”
“I—“ I was interrupted by my alarm that started blaring. Paramore’s song, Let the Flames Begin, started filling my ears and Clay jumped under me. I laughed and turned off the music before hopping out of bed with Clay’s gray shirt on. I had decided that this was one my favorite shirts that he owned. It was so comfortable. The cotton fabric felt so slick against my skin it was almost like it was never even there.
