Chapter 28

--Elspeth--

I was near the point of hyperventilating, we loved one another? The thought was puzzling as we both moved around my small kitchen as if we had lived together for years. Clay was staying over for dinner, too bad all we had were frozen TV dinners and today was not a day for cooking.

We had been pretty quiet the entire time, both lost in our thoughts and the fact that we both admitted to the feelings we had been trying to deny for a while now.

I thought about Riven. I had just broken up with a guy not too long ago and now I was in love with another guy? My mind was whirling as I thought about everything that came with loving Clay: his drinking issues, Thatcher, his parents, and his crazy friends. Everything that came along with Clay could potentially bring problems into my own life, but for some reason I didn’t care anymore. Something told me that in the end, everything would be fine.

I was hoping that I was right. Just as my hot pocket was done heating in the microwave, Riki and Osias came tumbling into the kitchen. Clay and I locked eyes in silent agreement. We were not going to tell either Riki or Osi about each other’s confessions until they were far away from one another. We couldn’t risk them going crazy on our behalf with one another around, the result would be disastrous.

“Wazzup, wazzup?” Riki called as she walked in. Her hair was wet as if she had just taken a shower, small droplets falling from her forehead. The same with for Osi as he ran his fingers through his dark hair and waved at Clay and I.

“Hey, what have you guys been doing?” I asked them.

Riki blushed, “Oh you know the usual. Just playing around.”

“Ew,” Clay exclaimed.

Osi chuckled as I took a bite out of my hot pocket. I sighed in content. This tasted amazing right now. I felt like I had gone through a day of extensive travel with everything I had already endured within the first part of the day.

“Well are you two in the mood to go to the club?” Osi asked while eying my hot pocket. I narrowed my eyes at him. He wasn’t going to get a bite out of this if it was the last thing I do.

Riki’s blue eyes were lighting up with excitement. “It would be amazing, this one club is having a Glow in the Dark Night! That means you have to wear all white Elspeth, we are going to look so good!” Riki gushed.

I shook my head at her, it was a school night and I had a lot of homework and studying I had to get done. Going out tonight wasn’t really in my books, plus it was a school night. What did she expect from us? Although Clay was always ready to party and he seemed willing to participate from the way he was bobbing his head along to Riki’s explanation.

“I’m sorry, I can’t. I’m swamped with homework.”

Riki pouted and I immediately felt bad. I knew she was doing it on purpose since she knew I hated it when people gave me the pout. How could you ever say no to the pout?!

“Oh come on Elspeth, let’s do something fun!” Riki was jumping around in the kitchen, looking like a kid who had one too many pixie sticks.

“I can’t, honestly. I’d come if I felt like I have enough time to but I have too much to do.”

I haven’t been managing my time as much as I should’ve which led to this sudden onslaught of homework but I wasn’t too disappointed. Going out tonight was not in my planner. Today was a day of chilling at home and propping my feet up on the coffee table while Access and E! lead me to sleep.
