Miranda's pov:-

We walk through the passageway without saying anything. The passage goes under the castle. If we make any sound, we will get caught. We go to the armory first. "Take any weapon you like", I tell him.

"I don't know how to use one", he says.

"Take any you like and I will teach you" He nods his head and goes to pick up a sword. I see that it's a little big for him. "Here take this one. It will fit you better" He comes over and takes it from me.

He goes to pull it out but I hear a sound outside. I stop him with my hand and gesture for him to enter the passage. He starts to do just that while I quickly grab a bow and a quiver of arrows.

I enter the passage and close the door and soon hear someone enter the armory. We both heave a sigh of relief. "This way", I mouth at him.

We enter the stables where I had already saddled Killian and another horse named Philip. "This is Philip. You will ride him", I inform Edmund. One look at him, told me he has never ridden a horse before. "Philip here can talk like many creatures of Narnia. He will teach you how to ride him. But for now allow me to help you get up on him."

He comes near and I help him up on the saddle. He does it very ungracefully. I roll my eyes and get up on Killian. "For now just hold on to the reigns. I will run at high speed. Once we are safe I will teach you how to ride a horse properly." I hear Philip say. I giggle a little at this and Edmund blushes at my giggling.

"Let's go." At my words both Killian and Philip start running at full speed. I look over at Edmund and he looks terrified. I hold out my hand. He looks at it confused then he looks up at me. I nod. He hesitantly reaches over and holds my hand. After gaining a bit of confidence he starts to smile.

Once we reach the woods Killian and Philip slow down. We let go of each others hand. "Did you enjoy it?" I ask him. His big smile already tells me that he enjoyed it very much. "Yes", he answers, sounding breathless.

I laugh and get down. I help him to get down as well which he does with a little more grace than when he got up. "We will walk from here and let our horses rest a little."

"Why are you helping me?" He asks looking at me.

"How do you mean?" I ask him although I think I already know the answer.

"Jadis is your mother and you chose her over your sister, so why choose me over her?"

Just what I thought, I think.

I sigh before answering. "Because when Eliza left, she told me something. That stuck in my mind. I realised soon that she was right." I stop not sure if I want to continue.

He slips his hand into my hand. "It's okay if you don't want to talk about it. You don't have to tell me anything you are not comfortable with." I smile at him gratefully.

"I will tell you someday but I don't think I can talk about it now." He nods in understanding. I smile at him gratefully. We have been walking in silence for some time when Edmund decides to break it.

"Are my siblings really okay?" He asks.

I look over at him before answering, deciding whether or not to be entirely honest. I decide to be."I don't know. Last night when I saw them they were okay. Now that Jadis has lost you she will do everything she can to get to them or get to us."

Seeing the look on his face makes me wish I hadn't been truthful with him. He must have seen something on my face. He quickly says, "Atleast you were honest with me even though that is not what I wanted to hear." He gives me a small smile. "They have Elizabeth with them."

"Let's rest here for some time", I say noticing how tired he looks. A look of relief comes on his face. "You can tell me when you are feeling tired. We can rest then."

He looks at me surprised. "You will not tell me to shut up and keep moving?" He asks.

"No, why would I do that?", I ask confused.

"That's what Peter or Susan would have said."

While we are talking about this we approach a tree and sit down under it. After we both sit down Edmund starts to talk again.

"A war is going on in our land. For that my father had to go away. I felt alone after he left. I was closest to him among all of us. After he left, I thought Peter or Susan could provide some comfort but all they did is start acting like parents." He pauses sighing heavily.

I reach over and put an arm around his shoulders. He smiles at me gratefully before continuing.

"I started to become rude to them especially Lucy who didn't even understand why I acted like that. Then we were sent away from our home. Peter started to act more and more like Dad and Susan also started to be like Mom. I guess that's the reason it was easy for Jadis to give me those sweets. She talked to me with such warmth in her voice that I forgot to be cautious around her."

By the time he finishes he is in tears. I pull him close. He rests his head against my chest and starts to cry. I gently stroke his hair whispering, "It will be alright. Don't worry."

When he gets himself a little under control he says, "Do you think they will forgive me?"

"Of course they will, you are their brother."

"But they did act like that in the past."

"I saw it in all of their eyes. All they want is you back. They are willing to do anything, especially Peter."

He just nods his head without saying anything. "Why don't we get some sleep?" He looks up at me questioningly. "Nobody can enter a 10 mile radius without me knowing."

He seems to be content with this answer as he drifted of to sleep. I smile down at him before getting a bit more comfortable and going to sleep as well holding Edmund in my arms.

Well that almost broke my heart. The next chapter atleast won't be as heartbreaking as this one.
