𓆩♰𓆪 𝓑y morning, Rebekah was roused from her slumber by her handmaiden, who hurriedly escorted her to the council chamber where a meeting was already underway.

As she entered, a guard announced her presence, and Rebekah's heart sank at the sight of King Viserys's grim expression. She knew instantly that something grave had transpired.

The head Dragon Keeper stood before the assembly, his demeanor solemn, confirming Rebekah's fears. Even Rhaenyra lingered in the distance, observing with her arms folded behind her back.

"It occurred in the dead of night, my lords, during the Hour of the Bat. The thief slipped away under the cover of darkness, eluding our pursuit," the Dragon Keeper explained.

"How is it possible that a dragon's egg was stolen from under the watch of more than fifty Dragon Keepers?" Viserys demanded in Valyrian, his tone tinged with anger. Dragon eggs were revered as sacred, and their theft was considered treason.

"Say the word, cousin, and I'll hunt them down," Rebekah declared, her hand instinctively resting on her sword. "Who was it?" she demanded in common tongue, her voice edged with determination.

The Dragon Keeper's words hung heavy in the air. "The culprit was Prince Daemon, Your Grace," he declared.

"Well, fuck," Rebekah muttered under her breath, frustration evident in her tone. Daemon's penchant for trouble seemed insatiable. She reached for the pitcher and poured some wine into Corly's cup, offering him a silent comfort amidst the turmoil of the revelation.

Beside Corlys, Malyen appeared visibly uncomfortable, as if he'd rather be anywhere else. Rebekah couldn't fathom his presence at the council, but she suspected that Corlys might be planning a venture to the Stepstones without the council's knowledge. Someone would need to temporarily fill his role, and Mal seemed a fitting choice. Better him than Vaemond.

As Otto Hightower extended his cup, Rebekah purposefully ignored him, instead pouring wine into Viserys's cup.

Rhaenyra couldn't suppress a smirk at the Hand's disgruntled expression. "Well, I'll give it to Daemon for his dramatics," she remarked, a hint of amusement lacing her words
