Instead, this time Rebekah chose to stay to catch up with Mal over the years and actually get to know him. This seemed to please Viserys knowing at least his niece was eager to get to know her betrothed.
At the docks, Viserys embraced his niece, "No matter how many times you leave, I'll always worry for dear niece." he was getting emotional. He saw her grow up alongside Rhaenyra being raised by both Rhaenys and Aemma.
Sometimes Viserys found it hard to look at his niece. For he was reminded of his youngest Uncle. They were raised together and Rebekah was the very image of him, including her personality. Both share their love of swords and dragons.
He remembered being against Rebekah attempting to claim the dragon of Calen but had gotten an earful for Daemon, Aemma, and Rhaenys. Helios of course accepted Rebekah.
And it was no secret that Calen expressed many times that his daughter was the child of a dragon. Therefore sword-wielding is a must. Especially in this type of world. 'His daughter was the blood of old Valyria, and she could have anything her little heart desires.' Calen had stated proudly when she was born.
Ever since Aemma had died and he remarried he knew the relationship between him and Rebekah wasn't the same. They were just distant blood relatives now and that hurt him deeply. He had already broken so many promises to Aemma including looking after Rhaenyra and Rebekah.
By no means Rhaenyra marrying Laenor a punishment. He truly thought that they would be good together. He wanted Rhaenyra to be happy and content. But as a King, he needed to cover the rumors like a bandaid and mend the relationship between the Velaryons after he denied Laena and chose Alicent instead.
"I always return don't I? I'll be there for the wedding," Rebekah said, pulling away to finally look at him. She made no comment about his sickness, assuming it was from traveling at sea.
