That man! I glared at him from the safety of the blanket wrapped around me.
"Do you want to dress?" He waves his hand towards the rail of clothing his minion had delivered. His eyes narrow, watching my face, "Unless you would rather stay as you are"
"No!" I wriggle off the seat, wrapping the blanket tighter around me as I approach the rail, my eyes skimming over the obviously expensive clothing hanging there."I want my clothes back!" I snap at him and bite my lip as his deep chuckles make my body react.
"No, they were little more than rags" his reply is short and to the point."W...why are you doing this?" I stutter out, painfully aware of his gaze watching my every move "You've made it clear I was wrong, why don't you just let me leave" my heart is banging in my chest as I wait for his response, the softly coloured silks just a blur in front of me.
"I find you intriguing and think I'll keep you for now" his voice whispers in my ear, I startle, not having realised he was close enough to stir the hairs on my neck with his words. "Also I want to make sure you are safe, they have targeted you more than once, I won't risk you again"
I'm aware of every move he makes, my mind refocusing on the arm that extends around me, lifting a soft sage coloured outfit free. "Try this, I think the colour will be perfect on you"
My hand starts to extend but I pull back, does he expect me to change in front of him, again his chuckle makes me shiver, "You can use my bathroom to dress" he steps away to open an almost hidden door, hanging the clothes on the hook before stepping back to give me space.
I look at the door, back to him and back, but it the next softly spoken word that has me moving "Please" he adds and I nod, ducking me head, my cheeks warming at the almost whispered "Good girl"I pull the door shut behind me and the first deep breath, trying to centre myself from the impact that man has on my senses. I had come in here believing he was the enemy, the one behind everything that had gone wrong, but I knew he was telling me the truth, even if my gut was telling me I was still in danger but in a different way now.
I could hear his voice faintly from the other side of the door as I dropped the blanket and lifted the matching colour co-ordinated underwear out of its bag. The tags letting me know it was all brand new and all my size and probably horridly expensive, but I had little option, he had taken everything else.
I shivered as the soft silk fitted perfectly to my body and savoured the feel, I had never had expensive or delicate lacy underwear, preferring to spend my money on more practical items, but I could see why women did. Puling the wide leg trouser in place, I slid the tunic top over my head I lifted my eyes to look at my reflection, my eyes were bright and my hair a mess but I looked alive for the first time since they has found Josh's body. He was right the colour did suit me.
Knock knock "You dressed?"
I jump at the sound, my face flaming again as I think of the man the other side.
"Mabel!" he growls and I realise he's waiting for a response.
"Coming" I say opening the door and finding him waiting the other side, his gaze scanning me and again I swear it feels like I can physically feel his gaze on my body.
"Beautiful" he mutters softly before taking my hand in his and pulling me back out into his office, letting me go only to prowl around me. "You need shoes" he muses again almost to himself...
"I have my sandals" I point to them on the floor next to the sofa, I had removed them when he ordered me to strip, the memory causing my face to flame. He huffs "Put them on for now, we can pick up some things for you later" I open my mouth to argue but his finger on my lips stops me as his gaze holds mine.
"Arguing with me never works, so don't bother" he tells me before his face transforms into a grin and I can't move, can't tear my eyes away... He is the most beautiful man I have ever seen, even when looking foreboding but when he smiles, my god, there's the hint of dimples and he looks almost boyish. "You wait when Leo and Maude return, they will agree""When they return" I whisper out confused taking a step back from him. "Why would I see them?"
"Because my Mabel, until we get to the bottom of what's going on, you will be staying with me" he closes the distance between us "At my side, in my home" his voice has dropped and the low tone creates shivers through my body."I can't do that, I don't know you" I take a deep breath and raise my eyes to his "I can find a safe place to stay, I believe you when you say it wasn't you, I just need my bag and car and I'll get out of your way" I can't look at him anymore so move past him to pick up my shoes, sitting down to slide them onto my feet as silence fills the room.
He waits until I'm done and have no choice but to look at him again before he replies "No, you're staying with me, now are you ready?"I glare at him but he just grins "Come on Mabel, take a chance, What have you got to lose?" he teases and I hiss at him.
"Only until things are sorted out"
"We will see" he laughs, reaching for my hand again and pulling me closer, my heart and head racing.
"I'll look after you" he promises before shocking me with a soft kiss to my forehead.
