Family events were always chaotic, overrun as we were by males, so out had come the supersoakers, Viridian and her husbands had enough for all of us, adults and kids. I had left Mabel with Maude and Mum in the kitchen with the grandparents, who had been catching up on numerous things.
Dante and Remi had disappeared off with his cousins and after Leo and Romeo, I could hear the screams of laughters, then a roar as someone did something bad, Romeo shouting that his daddy was bad and had shot Aunty Viri.
I grinned to myself as her overprotective husbands and children all joined us in the hunt for my brother, soaking him and dragging him back to Viri, where she stood in Ravens arms... arms wrapped protectively around her, holding her... "Beg for forgiveness" Raven growls at him, causing Viri to tell him off.
Leo laughs as he says sorry but Ravens muttered "Not funny".
"No, I didn't know, oh Viri, Are you okay?" Leo rushes out and I feel for him, her husbands are crazy and he just shot her, but this seemed an over the top reaction.
"What's wrong?" I ask, stepping closer and realise what Leo has...
"We are pregnant" Viri says softly, confirming our thoughts as her husbands looks smugly on, this would be their fifth baby. She holds out her hands to them as they all converge around her and Uncle Gus appears "Is it?" He asks hopefully and we all hold our breath, so far we have all had boys, 8 of them so far.
"It's a girl" she confirms and Leo and I groan as Uncle Gus confirms it before he rushes off to share the news, Dad hot on his heels. I feel for Mabel and Maude, Mum and Dad will be hoping they too will have girls next time.
"Viri.." Leo steps forward and I know he's going to apologise again but she smiles and pulls him into a hug. "I am sorry" he tells her, sharing a grin over her shoulder at me as he teases her husbands "even if my wife is cursing you right now, are you sure its a girl, do you know how much trouble a girl will be, you'll need security, and just wait until she's dating" he trails off, and i hide my grin at the panic on her husbands faces, as they recognise what having a girl means.
I step back a little as everyone joins us, Viri's family sweeping her up in congratulations as I pull Mabel into my side, seeing Leo do the same with Maude as we watch on, our minion army of children already suggesting they will protect her.
"How are you doing baby?" I ask her softly and she smiles up at me "How?" She mutters but then shakes her head. She knows I know her body better than her , especially when it comes to pregnancy, she gets hotter, softer and she glows, not that she believes me until we test but I haven't been wrong yet.
"I haven't tested, you may be wrong" she whispers but it's not convincing, she knows I'm right. I move my hand over her stomach and kiss her gently, leaning my forehead against hers, ignoring what's happening around us as I focus on her.
"Dom? Mabel... DOM!" Finally I realise Mum has been trying to get our attention, her gaze however is locked on my hand, my hand on Mabel's stomach. "Something you want to tell us?" She asks excited and I my wife against me as i reply.
"Maybe" I tell Mum and everyone else.
Viri laughs, "I bet it was when we all went away together, all we need is for Maude to be too. It would be perfect, it's about time we all synced up"
I watched Maude flush at Viri's words, her gaze going to Leo's as she places his hand on her stomach too "Maybe, I'm not sure, but its possible" she acknowledges with a smile.
"Really, all of you, oh that's wonderful" all the grandparents seem over the moon,
"Maybe it will be three girls" Raven says laughing now at our expressions of worry.
"Security" I mumble turning to Leo, "Do you remember what it was like having Viri around as a baby, Oh god, what are we going to do?"
"Shi..sugar" Leo hisses, knowing exactly what I mean as Viri huffs.
"It was not that bad, I was a good child" we all grin as Raven picks her up, holding her close as he promises whatever happens they will look after the babies.
"Come on boys, lets go and get some ice cream to celebrate" Mum guides all the boys away, Dad and uncle Gus, and the other grandparents all going to, I know Dad and Uncle Gus will already be discussing updating security and I have no doubt Grant Steele will join in too.
"We don't know it's a girl, it could be another boy" Mabel warns me and I nod but my gut tells me it's a girl.
"We will see and whatever we have, we will love them like we love our boys"
"You know Dominic Genovese, for a gangster you are a big softie, best thing I ever did was breaking in to find you" she tells me and my heart swells with love for this woman who brought life and colour to my world, who has given me sons and endless moments of love and laughter.
Looking around at Maude in Leo's arms, sharing a moment of joy and Viri in her men's arms as we all take in our news before leaning my head against hers.
"I love you Mabel Genovese, more and more every day"
"And I love you too my husband, forever"

Update - 6 months later in a private ward surrounded by family three baby girls were born within 8 hours. Sharing a birthday and and endless supply of love, we are pleased to announce:

Baby Girl : Melody Elizabeth Louisa Steele
Weight : 6lbs 11oz
All babies are healthy and mother are doing well. The family's are all very very happy.
