Y/N, Killua, Gon, Leorio, Kurapika, and 38 others have passed the second phase. It's proven to have been more difficult for some more than others, Y/N being the latter. Throughout the next few phases, they notice a feeling that they're being watched. Who is the one watching them?

Not too long after the second phase, you and the 42 other examinees boarded the airship that would take you to the next phase. Killua and Gon invited you to hang out with them. "Y'know, Y/N, your pretty strong..." Gon murmured. "Thanks." you nodded. A powerful presence appeared behind the trio. You spun around, soon followed by Killua and Gon. "Is something the matter?" Netero said, approaching from a different direction. "Hey, did you happen to see someone behind us?" Gon asked. "No, why?" Netero said innocently. "Damn old man..." Killua muttered.

"Hey, would you three like to partake in a game?" Netero asked.

"A game? Of what kind?" you inquired. "It's simple. All that you must do is retrieve a ball from me and I will issue you your licenses on the spot." he informed.

"Killua, Gon. Could I give it a try?" you sighed, after watching them struggle for hours. "Whatever. It's impossible, go for it." Killua growled. "Yeah, sure!" Gon agreed.

You set down your bag, approaching Netero. On his head, the ball sat. He stood on one foot, sure he wouldn't lose the ball. Immediately, you sped up to about 400 MPH and he stood there, awestruck, trying to pinpoint your location. Using Zetsu, you snuck up behind him and dove for the ball. He turned around last second and narrowly dodged. You landed, squatting, and quickly stood.

"Your pretty fast." Netero complimented. "But not nearly fast enough to beat me." he added under his breath. Bastard.  You didn't hesitate to speed up and jumped, your hand grasping the ceiling.

He spun the ball on his left hand finger, his eyes full of arrogant overconfidence. You scowled and seemingly disappeared, diving behind him. This will take a while.

"Damn it!" you shouted, standing near the wall panting. "I'm gonna go. You guys coming?" Killua said. "Nah, I'll keep trying for a while." I said. "Me too!" Gon added. "Whatever" Killua said, waving. Gon jumped  at Netero in an attempt to headbutt him. He tried again, Netero panicking and jumping up, pushing him into the wall.

BANG.

"Is he dead?" Netero asked himself. Gon shakily sat up. He grinned, calling out, "You used your right hand!" Netero looked down at his hand and back up in surprise. The two of you decided to quit, retiring to sleep for the night.

The next morning, before we arrived, Gon asked you, "Hey, Y/N? Can you teach me the magic you do?" You looked over at him, "Magic? Oh, yeah, I guess so. But it will have to wait until after the exam, okay? It takes a while to learn typically, and you would needed to be practicing most of your time awake, so..." you answered, trailing off at the end. He nodded. "Yeah, that's fine!" he answered warmly. Soon enough, the airship landed. "C'mon, let's go!" he called to you. "Yeah!" you nodded. The two of you ran towards the exit, greeted by a smooth stone tower. A man tried to climb down, a bird-like creature swooping down and grabbing him.

"What's this?" you wondered to yourself. The rest of your friends had vanished, so they must have found a secret. You pressed down on the tile and it flipped from under you. "Where am I?" you murmured. You looked around the empty room,  noticing a sign displaying the words, "WELCOME TO THE TRICK TOWERS CHALLENGE: FATE CHOOSER! YOU WILL PROGRESS ON YOUR OWN AND JOIN A GROUP LATER ON!" It seemed simple enough, so you opened the door. In front, another sign: CHOOSE YOUR FATE! ONE PATH IS DIFFICULT BUT WILL TAKE LESS TIME, AND VICE VERSA BOTH END UP IN THE SAME PLACE, SO CHOOSE WISELY! You didn't hesitate to go through the difficult hall, easily getting to the next challenge. The sign displayed: WELCOME TO THE GAMBLE EVENT! THE RULES ARE SIMPLE. ROLL THIS DICE TO DECIDE WHETHER YOU GO FORWARD. You rolled the dice, it landing on 3. "Congratulations! You may continue on!" a voice said. You did so.

"Y/N?" Killua asked. You had walked down a long hallway and opened the door to see none other than the four friends you missed. "What are we doing?" you inquired. A brief explanation was given and the fights against prisoners begun. "I'll go first." you volunteered. There was a large buff man up against you. He chuckled, "Hah? I'm up against a puny little kid? Jeez, I won't have to try hard on this death match, huh?" You simply tilted your head back, your face void of emotion. The fight started and he dove towards you, his punch aimed for your throat. You glided out of the way effortlessly with your hands in your pocket. He slid to stop himself from falling. "Idiot." you muttered. "What was that, punk?!" he shouted. "I called you idiot. You are idiotic." you said, pointing at him.

He dove again, you dodged, your hands remaining in your pockets. Getting bored, you approached him head-on and caught his fist as he threw a punch. You kicked his stomach and he flew to the wall, crashing into it and falling to his death. "Sorry, you just really annoy me." you said, walking back to your teams side. Gon went next, another win. Kurapika was next. A blue guy with lots of tattoos went next. He talked about having 19 kills and wanting Kurapika as the twentieth. He turned around, revealing an obvious fake Troupe tattoo. Kurapika's eyes flashed scarlet and the man turned back, "Did you see tha- CHGGH!" Kurapika grabbed him roughly.

"One. The Phantom Troupe would have their membership number tattooed on the spider."

"Two. They would definitely never count how many they've killed."

"And three. If you ever mention that troupe again, and I'll kill you."

He said, throwing the terrified man to the floor. You had broken into a cold sweat yourself. "Kurapika..." you whispered, "What... happened?"

He returned to our side, you feeling a strange, conflicted feeling about the troupe you had always loved like a family. "Kurapika? Are you... alright?" you asked him. He nodded, sitting down. "If it's alright to ask, what does the spider mean to you? What did they do?" He looked back at you, thinking before answering, "They killed my clan. For our eyes, one of the seven wonders of the world. The Kurta Clan. I want justice, to hunt down and kill the whole troupe. And I will recover the eyes of my brethren." Your eyes widened, "They did that? I didn't know..." He looked at you strangely.

Next up, Leorio lost almost all of your time. Finally, Killua went up a mass murderer. "Now just so we're clear, this will not be a battle. It will be a one sided beating. I just wanna hear you scream." the man said. "Okay." Killua agreed. Before he could react, Killua had stolen his heart, literally.

"My heart! Give it.. Give it back!"

Dead. You felt a mix of disgust and familiarity.

Kurapika has told Y/N his past, causing Y/N to begin to doubt her friends, her family. Can she tell him the truth? Or will she run away and avoid it? Find out in Chapter 1.3!
