With so many things going on in life, Stephanie Skye is basking in the day off from touring. She spent the night with Brent at his place. Brent is still sleeping since he got in late last night thinking that Stephanie didn't hear him come in but she really did since she couldn't sleep. She's in her workout clothes preparing to go to the gym when she gets a text message.
Dean: Can u meet me in front of my apartment?
Stephanie: I'm not having sex wit u
Dean: That's not why I'm texting u
Stephanie: Is everything ok?
Dean: Just meet me...please
Stephanie looks at the text for a moment before deciding to move. She slips out of the apartment without Brent noticing. On the drive over to Dean's place she begins to wonder what could be wrong that he's want her to meet up with him in the first place.
She drives up to the parking lot where she sees Dean leaning against his car. She gets out of the car to confront Dean.
"Okay," she shrugs her shoulders, "I'm here. What's so important that you had to get me here?"
He opens the passenger door, "I'll show you."
"You really think I'm just gonna get in that car with you without an explanation?"
"For once I just want you to not ask questions and to just go with it."
Without saying a word, Dean and Stephanie stare at each other. Eventually she gets in the car without any more questions considering he won't answer them.
Dean drives for about two hours into the desert of Nevada. Stephanie begins to notice how far they've driven and start to wonder where they are really going.
"Why are we going into the desert?"
"There's a great hiking trail out here that I wanted to show you."
"A hike?" she questions, "Why are we going hiking?"
"Well you said you've never been on one so I thought I'd get you to experience the grand adventure of hiking in the desert. I'm sure Brent isn't the outdoors type."
The two carry out the trip in silence until they finally reach the hiking spot. Dean leads the way up a mountain. He constantly looks behind him to make sure Stephanie isn't struggling. She has a great view of her own of his backside when he climbs up. They reach the top of one scaled hill when Dean stops to look across.
"Now what?" Stephanie asks catching her breath.
Dean tosses his backpack across to the other mountain where there's a five feet gap, "We get to the other side."
"Wait," before Stephanie can stop him, Dean leaps to the other mountain side, "oh my god, Dean!"
He makes the jump and walks off picking up his backpack, "See, nothing to it."
"That's great so where do we meet back up."
"Right here," he points at where he's standing.
Stephanie shakes her head, "Oh no, no, no, I can't jump that. There's no way I'm doing it."
"Steph, you can either jump over here and I'll catch you or I risk jumping back and possibly falling to my death down there." He says pointing to the gap below them.
She thinks about her options and finally just gives in, "Damn it."
Stephanie backs up and takes a deep breath. She looks at Dean trying to get her courage levels up. Without hesitation, she jolts off the edge towards the other edge of the cliff. Her foot doesn't land properly on the rock and slips. Suddenly Dean reaches out to grab Stephanie by the wrist to pull her on the mountain. Before they knew it Dean has his arms wrapped around her waist and her hands on his shoulder.
"Thank you," she clears her throat, "for that life threatening experience."
"Anytime,"
About half an hour goes by when Dean and Stephanie manage to make it to the last mountain in their hike and the sun is beginning to set, they both stand beside each other to watch it.
Stephanie looks up at Dean, "Why did you invite me?"
"Maybe I just enjoy your company."
She scoffs, "Sweaty and with my clothes on, I find that hard to believe."
"Well, why did you come?"
"Maybe I like nature." Just as she finishes her sentence she swats at her leg.
Dean raises his eyebrows.
"Fine, I hate the outdoors."
He smirks looking over the mountains, "I guess I just wanted to see if you would come. Just to see where we stand."
Stephanie begins to think, "And where do we stand?"
The silence between them was as deserted as the desert. Just when he opens his mouth to speak he closes it and instead he smiles at her before continuing the walk.
By the time Stephanie and Dean make it back to town it's already night time. The two said their goodbyes before Stephanie drove back to the apartment where Brent was already waiting for her.
"Where have you been all day?" He asks.
"Um, I went hiking. I thought I'd change up the workout routine."
Brent flares his nostrils, "Well make sure you take a shower before coming to bed."
Stephanie nods her head. She heads to the bathroom where she looks at herself in the mirror and start to think about what Dean said.
"I guess I just wanted to see if you would come. Just to see where we stand."
She thinks to herself, "I hope it's somewhere good."
