"Ruby" Grandpa called "can you come here a minute sweetheart?"
"Just coming" I called back and rushed down the wooden stairs tripping on the last step and falling on my stomach I lay there for a minute catching my breath seeing my Grandad's checkered slippers from the corner of my eye.
"Careful, honey, you'll hurt yourself keep rushing around like that" he told me I rolled over on my back and looked up at him smiling
"I'm okay, Papa" I said, I spoke to him like he was my father because he basically was he cared for me when I was a baby and still cared for me 6 years later.
"I have something to show you, Roo" he said leading the way into the huge living room and dining area where a small basket was on the floor, our Collie puppy, Petra, laid beside it as if protecting whatever was inside "this is your sister, her name is Ashlyn" Grandpa told me as I leaned over the basket and peered inside at a sleeping baby, her tiny hands curled into fists, Grandad walked over to the cabinet where he kept all his pictures and took out a photo of a man that I'd never met, my dad.
"Did the same thing happen to Ashlyn that happened to me?" I asked, my father was arrested for stealing before I was born and my mother had died giving birth to me that's why I lived with my grandfather I knew my Dad was released from prison 3 years ago but he made no effort of trying to see me.
"No sweetheart," my grandad told me holding the picture of my dad in front of him so I could see it too "your father is still out of prison he had this baby with another woman, Liza, she's still alive, they couldn't cope with a baby so they brought her here to live with us, is that okay?" He asked and I nodded we were the same, we had the same father, we were both given to our grandfather like we were puppies he didn't want anymore and we had half the same blood she was my sister and she always would be.

------------------ PRESENT DAY ---------------------

"What?" I said confused at what I just heard Sara had called this man her Dad but that would be impossible because if he was Sara's Dad that would make Ashlyn, her and me sisters.
"He's my father" Sara said sounding as equally confused as I was "what's wrong?" She asked
I couldn't speak my mouth was dry and I was in a lot of shock "he's our father too" Ashlyn said for me
"Seriously?" Sara asked looking at me wide eyed and I nodded everyone was staring at us I couldn't even look at my Dad and I needed to get away from him.
"Can you guys deal with this one without me?" I asked Daryl and Rick
"You alright?" Daryl asked
"Yeah I just need some time to think" I told him. He nodded and I made my way back to the prison hearing footsteps behind me.
"Ruby, wait" Sara said but I carried on walking not turning back.
"Rube, come on, we need to talk about this" Ashlyn called
I walked into the prison and up the metal steps to the room Daryl and I shared a picture of my grandfather, Ashlyn and I sat on top of the chest of drawers in the far corner next to it was a picture of my father and mother while she was pregnant with me. I picked up the picture of my parents, my father had changed a lot but it was definitely him outside. Sara and Ashlyn came into the cell.

"Ruby?" Ashlyn asked cautiously "can we come in?" I nodded without turning to look at her and Sara.
"What's your mother's name?" I asked Sara without turning away from the pictures
"Liza" she answered
"That makes you and Ashlyn full sisters"
"Rue your my full sister, you always will be this doesn't change anything"
"You would of been 4 when Ashlyn was given to Grandad how come they kept you and gave up Ashlyn?" I asked bluntly
"I don't know" Sara said slowly "I was only 4, Ruby, I don't remember anything"
I turned to look at them both as a male figure walked towards the door stopping just outside. James Keeling.

He knocked on the doorframe making Ashlyn and Sara turn around.
"May I speak to you three?" He asked
"About?" I said bluntly
"Well I'm your father" he started but I cut him off
"Let me get one thing straight, you are not nor have you ever been my father, these two can make up their own minds about you, but I'm telling you now, this man" I told him holding up the picture of my grandfather "is the only father I have, you had your chance, I was three when you got out of prison, you never tried to contact me at all, you have no right to do so now" and without giving him time to respond I stormed past him to find Daryl.

"Everything okay?" He asked as I slumped into a chair next to him
"James just makes me so angry" I refused to call him my Dad, he didn't deserve that title from me
"Well I'm sure Rick will refuse to let him in the group if your not happy about it" he said and I shook my head
"No, I can't do that, Sara would hate me and I'm not sure how Ashlyn would feel they don't deserve that" I told him while he nodded "I'll just stay out of his way" I smiled at him thanking him for listening and started to eat the cold soup Carol had served.
