Reunion

I looked at Daryl he was staring at the girl looking shocked to see her as she stared wide eyed back at him, my stomach felt twisted as I realised I was jealous.
"You know her?" I asked Daryl and he turned to face me then nodded with a sad look in his eyes, I don't know why that made me feel nervous but it did.
"Daryl!" The girl squealed flashing a huge smile across her face as she stepped toward him arms open for a hug. He stepped back and she put her arms down "what's the matter? You not glad to see me?" She asked but Daryl didn't answer.
"Who are you?" Rick asked
"I'm Sara said the girl, this is Will," she pointed to the younger of the two men "and that's Ben" she motioned toward the older man
"Why are you all in this prison?" Rick asked again
"Well I'm just visiting these two bringing them food and stuff" she told him in a Tennessee accent Rick nodded and looked toward Will.
"What you in here for?"
"Don't see how that's any of your business" Will answered he looked around the same age as me and Sara maybe a year older but no older than 25.
"It is my business if you want these keys" Rick told him bluntly dangling the keys to the cells on his middle finger "one more time, what are you in here for?"
The girl, Sara, was still staring at Daryl even though he was watching Rick and Will, I started to wonder how they knew each other and my stomach continued to make weird knots making me feel really uncomfortable.
"I was a thief" Will told Rick "I'm in here for armed robbery"
"Did you hurt anyone?" Rick asked
"I didn't kill no body if that's what your asking" Will answered "just threatened, the gun wasn't even loaded it was just used to scare people"
"What about you?" Rick asked Ben
"I killed a man" he replied bluntly
"Why?" Daryl asked
"He raped my daughter and she hung herself because of it" he said staring coldly at Daryl
"I'm gonna let you both out, but if any of you try to hurt a member of my group I promise I will shoot you" Rick said before opening the cell doors with the keys he found.

We returned to the rest of the group and as soon as I was there I walked over to where Ashlyn, Carl and Beth were sitting playing with a pack of cards they found.
"Everything okay Rue?" Ashlyn asked looking up at the three new arrivals
"Yeah, fine," I rushed "listen you three, I want you all to stay as far away from the new guys as possible, okay? I don't trust them and they could be dangerous, I don't want you getting hurt"
"We'll be fine Ruby, we got you to protect us" Carl said
"I know, you always will little fella," I replied ruffling my fingers through his hair "just promise me you'll stay together and away from those people"
"We promise" they said in unison and I smiled
"Who are they anyway?" Beth asked
"Their names are Sara, Will and Ben. Will and Ben were prisoners here and Sara was visiting them"
"She's really pretty" Ashlyn stated and Beth agreed I looked over to see that Daryl was making his way over to me
"See you guys later" I said and left them playing their game.

"Ruby?" Daryl started "we need to talk"
"Sure, what about?" I asked even though I already knew it would be about Sara
"Let's go back to our cell" he said making his way up the metal stairs towards the cell we had taken for our own. He sat down on the bed and I sat beside him waiting for him to begin.
"About Sara," he said "you're probably wondering how I know her"
"Yes, the thought had crossed my mind actually, now you mention it" I replied sarcastically but he didn't smirk like he usually did when I made a sarcastic comment
"Erm, she's my ex girlfriend" he told me looking at his hands
"Oh" I said shocked "how long were you together?" I asked
"About a year" he said
"Okay, so what made you split up?" I questioned
"She cheated on me, she didn' like the fact that I wouldn' open up to her or show my body off to her and I guess she decided if she wasn' going to get anythin' from me she would get it somewhere else"
"Oh, Daryl, I'm so sorry, I would never hurt you like that" I said giving him a hug, it was the first time Daryl had told me something about his past but I completely understood why he was so reserved and held things back, it seemed like he had never had a relationship of any kind where he could actually trust someone. I hope to change that.
"Don't trust her, Ruby" Daryl said snapping me out of my thoughts "she's a good actress you can never tell if she's being real or fake" I nodded and lent my head against his shoulder.

All the bodies of the walkers had been taken out of the building and Rick, Daryl, Glenn and I planned to clear out another Cell Block the next morning, while Herschel asked if he could dig a grave for the dead walkers, his belief of thinking they could be cured had now gone but he insisted that they were still people before this happened, with families and lives and deserved a decent burial which I agreed with so T-Dog, and Ben agreed to help dig the graves for the walkers.

Everyone was eating a microwaved macaroni cheese meal which would have probably been disgusting under normal circumstances but tasted like heaven since I hadn't eaten in what felt like months. Daryl finished his meal and started scraping at the sides with one of the plastic forks Lori had found, he was clearly still hungry and he hadn't slept in at least 4 days so I decided to give him the rest of mine.
"Yer need to eat that yaself" he said
"You need it more than I do Daryl, eat it" I told him and he nodded and took the tin tray off of me
"Thanks" he smiled before eating again
"You want mine too?" Sara asked him but Daryl shook his head
"No," he said bluntly but realising he sounded rude added a "thanks"

After everyone had eaten we headed for our cells I laid on the bed next to Daryl and slowly started to close my eyes I felt Daryl kiss me and I kissed him back when he pulled away I opened my eyes and asked "what was that for?"
"Being you" he said and rolled over to go to sleep leaving me smiling.
