Love and Death (The Walking Dead - TWD)

The L Word

"Ruby?" Daryl yelled "wake up"
I rolled over groaning a slight "what?" at him before opening my eyes to look at him. "Walkers broke the fence down, we could use yer help" he told me and suddenly I was wide awake I threw my jeans and boots on and got my swords ready.

We walked to the courtyard locking all the children and vulnerable inside everyone else was already in a line across the fence killing as many walkers as quickly and quietly as they could. I saw T-Dogs knife get stuck in a walkers skull and rushed over to help him. I sliced the head off pulling the knife out as it fell to the floor and handing it back to T-Dog.

Standing in line next to Maggie and Daryl, I prepared myself and my swords for the fight. Daryl loaded his crossbow and was shooting down the walkers that were slightly further away while my swords flew through the air swiftly cutting off the heads of the undead close by. James was watching me a look of surprise on his face as if he couldn't believe his daughter was a valued member and fighter in a group.

The fence was being broken down bit by bit and really wouldn't hold for much longer more and more walkers were coming by the second and we wouldn't be able to hold them all off.

"They need a distraction" I yelled to Rick over the noise
"We don't have one" he called back
"We need to think of something we can't hold them all back!" I called never stopping my swords from cutting back and forth I glanced around when I had a chance and saw the silver Mustang in the parking lot "does the car still work?"
"Yeah, why?"
"I'll drive out to the city use a gun shot that should draw the walkers attention away long enough for us to start rebuilding the fence"
"I'm coming with you there's no way your doing that on your own" Daryl told me
"Okay" I said carrying on cutting the heads off walkers I looked at Maggie "you gonna be okay?" I asked
"Sure, go, hurry up"

Daryl and I rushed to the car and he jumped in the drivers side we drove to the roadside tooting the car horn as we went to attract the dead and then guided the walkers to the abandoned warehouse where we found Luke and April.

Daryl got out of the car while the walkers were still stumbling behind and found a rock and some rope he climbed back into the car and waited for the walkers to get closer. When they were just behind the car he threw the rock into the warehouse allowing them all to follow in the direction of the noise once the majority were inside he shut the doors and bolted them securing it with the rope.

As he turned around though a walker inside the warehouse had managed to pry his arm through a small gap and grabbed the back of Daryl's jacket pulling him backwards.

"No" I screamed rushing out of the car and pulling the knife from my boot! I sliced the walkers hand off with my sword and stabbed it through the eye falling to the floor shaking.

"Rube? You okay?" Daryl asked pulling the dead hand off the back of his leather jacket as if nothing had happened.
"You scared the shit out of me Daryl!" I yelled starting to cry "I thought I'd lost you" he pulled me into a hug and stroked my head
"You won't lose me, don't worry about that"
"Of course I'll worry, Daryl, I love you" I cried then everything went quiet. The whole world just seemed to shut off and I couldn't hear a thing. Daryl was staring at me like he had just seen a ghost and I had this weird knotting sensation in my stomach.
"Erm, I'm sorry" I said awkwardly wiping my tears and coughing slightly "uh, we should go" I stood up not looking at Daryl and climbed into the car as we drove back in silence.

Rick, T-Dog, Glenn and James we're rebuilding the fence as we drove through the gates they were doing a pretty good job too most of it was already done.

"Good thinking, Ruby! That really helped us out" Rick praised
"Anytime" I said forcing a smile "I'll be inside I don't feel too good" I glanced at Daryl he was still staring at me as he watched me go inside. I slumped up the stairs to my cell and crawled under the thin blanket, curling into a ball.

"What have I done? I've just scared Daryl off haven't I? But then we've been together for half a year it was bound to happen sooner or later? But what if he doesn't feel the same? God I'm such an idiot!" All my thoughts were flying round my head as I lie there staring at the ceiling. Until a knock on the doorframe pulled me back to reality.

"Everything okay, Ruby?" Sara asked "I brought you some water Daryl said you wasn't feeling well"
"I'm okay I said sitting up on the bed and sipping on the water she gave me, I told him I loved him" I confided in my new found sister
"Aww, was that the first time you said it?" She asked and I nodded in response "he didn't say it back did he?" And I shook my head "Ruby, I was only with him a month but you can tell he's a guarded person he won't show his feelings that easily, he does love you though, he'd be a fool not to" she kissed my forehead and wandered off downstairs leaving me with my thoughts.

Sorry this update has taken so long been soooo busy with work and college and God knows what else! I only have time to update when I'm supposed to be sleeping! 😂
