~I'm choosing me now~

Evangeline's PoV
My worries of feeling out of place were for no reason. Chiara tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible and I love her for that. She's the sweetest person ever.

I sat at the window seat and leaned my head against the window watching the sunset. It was beautiful. The sky was different shades of pink as the sun began to disappear. A blanket covered my lap as I watched in awe.

Before I knew it, the sun had gone down and the stars were twinkling as the moonlight shone down. The sky here is really pretty.

Suddenly, my head snapped towards the door and Tobias had staggered in, barely able to stay upright. I bolted from where I was sat and rushed towards him. "Tobias!," I said loudly in fear. He managed to close the door behind him and fall on the couch in here.

"What happened?," I asked him, concerned as I kneeled on the floor as he laid on the couch.

"Remember when I said the business over here wasn't good?," he asked me, panting slightly. I nodded my head, allowing a quiet 'yeah' to leave my lips. "This is what I meant."

"You're the leader," I said, genuinely confused on how he can be hurt since he's the leader.

"Not my mafia that did it," he groaned out. "It's suppliers." I know that other people from outside the mafia supply them with guns and other stuff. He must've not done something they asked or something. I've got no idea.

"Alright take your top off," I told him. He leaned forward slightly before sliding the top right off and throwing it on the floor. I stared at his upper body. He was covered in bruises and cuts all over. He even had a little dried blood on him. "You need a shower," I said as I looked at the dried blood.

"It was six against three," he sighed out, sounding annoyed with himself.

"At least you weren't on your own," I reminded him. "It could've been a lot worse."

"Come on, Tobi. You need to get up and have a shower." Wordlessly, I slid his shoes off, knowing full well that he'd struggle doing it since he could barely walk. Now all that was left was his pants. "You can take the rest off," I told him as I tried to pull him up by the arm.

Slowly, he got up. "I'll be fine tomorrow. All I need is some sleep and some painkillers," he told me before he disappeared into the bathroom.

Ten minutes later, he resurfaced with a towel around his waist. Is he not terrified of that towel falling? He disappeared into the closet before coming back out with only just a pair of boxer briefs on.

He pulled out a box of painkillers from god knows where and swallowed it without water. I scrunched my face up, not knowing how he just managed to swallow it with no water. He didn't say a word as he climbed into bed beside me.

It was at this point I realised we hadn't cleaned the wounds or anything. Maybe we should've done it before the shower. "We've not cleaned up the cuts," I told him, making him crack open his eyes and stare at me, making my heart melt a little. He was laid on his back with an arm under his own head.

"It's okay. I won't die," he told me before he closed his eyes again.

"You sure?"

"Yeah." With that, we both fell silent. I didn't say another word knowing that he must be thinking about whatever caused him to come home in this state.

Before I knew it, loud snoring made me jump slightly. He was fast asleep. His mouth was open slightly and the creases that normally lived on his forehead were no longer there. He seems carefree. Like he doesn't lead a whole mafia. He seemed relaxed. But I guess that's how people normally look when they're asleep.

"Tobias!," I said scoldingly as if I was talking to a child, not that I ever have spoke to a child. "Put that gun away." I narrowed my eyes at him, daring him to just leave it lying around. He let out a sigh as he leaned forward to pick it up.

His cousins had visited today. His whole family looked similar. Her newborn baby laid in my arms, warming my heart.

I've never held a baby before or even seen one. "Hello," I said softly as I looked down at him with a smile. His chubby cheeks were tempting me to squeeze him. He's just the cutest baby I've ever seen.

Tobias had the smart idea of leaving his gun lying around with children running around. I may not have ever seen or been around children but I knew that leaving a gun lying around was a stupid thing to do. He tucked the gun into his waist band before picking up the toddler.

I watched in awe as he threw her up in the air before catching her. Her cute little giggles filled the air.

I've never ever seen him like this. Maybe everyone was right. Maybe I have changed him for the better.

"When am I going to get my grandbabies?," his mother said with a small smile as she watched us both. As soon as that left her mouth, I stared at her in shock.

"Soon," Tobias answered unaffected. My face burned bright red as a smile fought it's way onto my face.

Soon.

"Tobias!," I gasped out as his gun fell onto the floor with a thump. Thank god it didn't go off. His mother nor the children's mother said a word or batted an eye lid.

"It won't go off. The safety's on," he told me.

"You disfigured donkey," I said, clenching my jaw. "What if it wasn't?"

"Do you even know what a donkey looks like?"

I stayed silent for a moment.

"Tobi honey, you're taking me to the zoo."
