yori's pov
Why did she do that?
Why did she tell Kyomi how she feels?
She knows Kyomi doesn't reciprocate, so why did she go and tell her?
Is that why Kyomi has been avoiding her all week?
That's why she never planned to say anything. It would ruin whatever relationship they had.
And now Kyomi has texted her to come talk.
What's she going to say?
Is she going to tell Yori to quit the work study?
Is she going to scream at her, tell Yori to never talk to her again?
Or what if Kyomi feels the same way?
It's a slim chance, but what if?
What if she wants to talk to Yori to tell her she feels the same?
And what would happen next?
————————
Yori planned to wait outside, but it's raining.
So she paces back and forth in the lobby of Heartbreaker's agency, hoping no one she knows sees her.
An incoming text from Kyomi says she'll be down in a minute. Yori's heartbeat picks up.
"Hey," she hears Kyomi's voice say from behind her.
"Hey," Yori turns to the girl, who's now at her side.
"Do you mind if we walk outside?"
"It's raining."
"You and I both know too many people here. So it's that or rain."
"Okay. Rain it is."
Kyomi leads Yori outside to a secluded corner near the office.
"How's your arm feeling?" She asks.
Really?
Really.
Why can't she just ask what she wants to ask?
Why can't she get this over with and reject Yori?
"It's fine. What did you want to talk about?"
"Okay. Um," Kyomi stops to take a deep breath.
Yori waits.
"Did you really mean it? Or did you say it just to fuck with me?"
She doesn't know what to say to Kyomi's question. She thought she was just messing with her?
"Yori?"
"Kyomi, I—"
"If you said it just to mess with my head, why? What do you gain? If you don't like me like that, just tell me. Okay. I'm done."
"Kyomi, that's not—"
"Actually, another thing. Now, you clearly know how I feel about you, and we're not that close where it makes it super awkward that you don't reciprocate but close enough that it's still awkward and i'm sorry I messed it all up and made things weird and you can hate me for the rest of your life, go ahead, but please just don't tell people how I feel."
"Stop. Please," is all Yori can say to get the other girl to stop talking.
"Why would you assume I'm messing with you? Have you ever considered those feelings might be real?"
Kyomi shakes her head.
"Are...are they?" She whispers.
Yori takes a step closer to Kyomi. She brushes the other girl's now soaking wet hair away from her face. Ignoring the pounding of her heart in her throat, Yori leans down and presses her lips against Kyomi's.
She pulls away after a second, or five, and Kyomi is staring at her with wide eyes and a slightly parted mouth. Rain is steadily falling around them. Yori's hands are still on the sides of her face.
"Yeah. Yeah they are."
