yori's pov
8 years laterYori's been a defense attorney for just about two years. She's fallen into a routine she loves, one that finally clicks for her. Hero work, for her, is all in her past.
That is, until, she gets an invitation. It's some sort of gala honoring the top 10 heroes. From the looks of it, they'll all be there, even the #1 hero.
She flips over the card. No name other than her own. The event is tomorrow night.
The only hero she's spoken to in the past five years is Heartbreaker, and even that was about two years ago.
But here's to new beginnings, right?
Might as well check it out.

She steps into the room and is greeted with a tray of champagne. She looks around, trying to figure out who could have possibly invited her. The first person who stands out is a man with a flash of bright red hair and a toothy grin, arm looped into his wife's.
Red Riot notices Yori as well, and albeit confused, waves her over to the pair.
Heartbreaker's face lights up upon seeing Yori, and the two quickly fall into easy conversation.
"So, have you seen Kyomi yet tonight? She invited you, I'm assuming?"
Yori tenses.
"Actually, I'm not sure who invited me. I kind of assumed someone I work with, or you, even," she laughs a bit at Heartbreaker's shocked expression.
"And, no I haven't seen her yet. I don't even know if I should talk to her, given we haven't spoken in five years."
kyomi's pov
The number one hero walks in, and it feels like the whole crowd is watching her.
Normally, at events like these, she just walks in and flocks to the same group of people to avoid this feeling. But, tonight she stopped in her tracks.
Standing next to Heartbreaker and Red Riot is a woman with a head of shoulder length, deep blue hair and a dress that shows the left arm decorated with scars.
Her breathing hitches. Yes, she invited Yori here on a whim, not thinking she would even show, but Kyomi didn't have a plan of what to do or say if she did.
Yes, it's been five years, but five years isn't enough to fully get over their relationship.
She settles on trying to make a quick exit to the bathroom, but Yori turns around and spots Kyomi before she can move.
Everything about Yori—her face, her posture—everything softens. She smiles. Kyomi returns the gesture.
Heartbreaker, turning to Yori, also notices these two, and quickly pulls her husband away.
Kyomi makes her way through the crowd.
"Hey," Yori says once they're together, "been awhile."
Kyomi smiles.
"Yeah...you cut your hair."
Without thinking, Kyomi reaches out to grab a piece, threading the soft hair through her fingers.
Yori now has a dusting of pink over her cheeks.
Kyomi quickly drops it.
Yori clears her throat and asks:
"So what's it like being the number one hero?"
Kyomi smiles a bit.
"Looks like you finally achieved your dream of beating me in the rankings," Yori adds with a grin.
"Yeah that feels good."
Before they know it, 40 minutes fly by. An hour. and the two have been standing talking to each other the whole time.
And Kyomi's heart hasn't quieted yet.
"Hey, do you want to come to my place? I mean, I definitely still have stuff of yours that I stole before we..."
An awkward silence falls over them.
"I'd like that. A lot," Kyomi replies, and takes Yori's outstretched hand.

Kyomi wakes up the next morning to the meows of a cat she doesn't own, with her body tangled with one of another girl, and a head of blue hair asleep on her shoulder.
Oh.
