Since I left Aithan's house yesterday, I have been restless. There wasn't a single second that I haven't thought about him. The single thing that comforted me was the Taj Mahal. I stared at it for hours, replaying all the moments spent with him in my mind.
Today was my rehearsal dinner that I was having with Shawn and the whole family and tomorrow would be my wedding. His parents wouldn't be present for the dinner but would be present tomorrow for the wedding. They were coming from Canada.
I was searching for ways to talk with Shawn but failed miserably. I couldn't bring myself to tease that topic to him. Being a brave girl, I haven't felt so courageless, until now. I feared his reaction. My family's reaction.
Everything was already planned and organized. Guests were already invited. To cancel all this at the last moment would be catastrophic but I had to do it. For Shawn, for me. I can't ruin his life along with mine.
He deserved to be happy, after all, he wasn't a bad guy. He just chose the wrong person, which was me. I wasn't his soulmate.
I sighted as I went to the kitchen. Angel and my mom were preparing dinner.
"Mum, where is dad?" I asked as I grabbed an apple. I was lucky that I didn't get to help because in my family, the bride-to-be was considered a princess, be it for a few days but they aren't supposed to do anything.
"He is in the attic." She replied as she continued her work while Angel was busy doing the dishes.
"Thanks, mom."
"Do it well Angel, I can see the stain from there." I giggled as I rushed away from there.
The only person that could guide me right now was my dad. He was always here for me. Ready to lend me an ear, without any judgments. I headed towards the attic.
I was heading towards the attic drowning in my own thought and suddenly I heard my phone rang. I was a little relieved that it was neither Aithan nor Shawn, it was my boss. I ignored her call and headed towards the attic.
I was always happy when I received Aithan's calls but since I left his house that was yesterday, whenever he called, I felt nervous and a little guilty because I left without any goodbye or justifications.
Normally he wouldn't be like Shawn who would call me like a hundredth time until I would pick up, Aithan would call me once and if I didn't answer then he would message me to convey what he had to say but since I left from his place, he had been calling me several times and even a handful of messages, asking for forgiveness and requests to meet him.
I was also desperate to meet him but not until I talked with Shawn but the courage to talk with him was nowhere to be found.
That's why I needed to talk with my dad. Maybe talking with him would encourage me to talk with Shawn.
Telling the truth no matter how hard it was or how bitter it sounded was what my father always taught me to do.
"Dad, are you here?" I said as I swung the door of the attic open.
My dad, besides being a doctor, was also passionate about buying rare broken collection cars and would adjust them in his free time.
"Milly, come in." Dad smiled as he saw me at the door. I advanced hesitantly. Even though I was more comfortable with him than my mother, I didn't know how he would take it when I would tell him that I didn't want to marry Shawn. How would he take it when I would tell him that I don't love Shawn, that too, a day before my wedding.
I settled next to my dad, watching his bricolage. I was silent for several minutes. A behavior that was rare when I was with my dad.
"What happened Milly, why are you silent?" Dad asked.
