"Have you thought about applying abroad?" Your homeroom teacher asked. "I think you might get into a university that is good as well."
Abroad? The word made you freeze and shut down.
The last days of exams happened an hour earlier and since you were one of the few students who managed to finish, your homeroom teacher took a few students outside of the classroom and spoke to everyone. They had another teacher watching the classroom.
You were farther down the hallway, away from prying ears. "Abroad?"
Your teacher nodded. "Yes, I think you can apply. I sense you might excel and since college applications are due soon, I thought it would be better to talk to you earlier."
The settlement of uneasiness took over. "I-I'm not sure... I have to think it over."
"I understand. Just try to come up with a decision in two days okay?"
You nodded, not trusting your voice to speak. Your homeroom teacher dismissed you, asking the next student to talk to them. You're sure that your teacher wants to go home early as you figured this is why they called out some of the students during the short break. Still, going to college abroad?
The idea entertained you a bit. Experiencing something new would be exciting; on the other hand, you would leave the comfort of your life. Leaving behind everything here. If you were going to the local university here, you would still be close to everything you know. Ugh, you feel that this annoying thought is going to stay a while.
"I mean, what harm can it do?" Dahyun stretched out her body. It's time to head home, Taehyung disappeared momentarily and you're not sure where he went.
"That's true unless there's an application fee." You scrunched up your nose. You paid a small one for the local university. You haven't even stepped foot on campus yet they're already taking your money.
The two of you gathered your shoes from the shoe locker and once changing into them, you headed outside. "Should we wait for Taehyung?" You asked, noticing that he still wasn't back here yet.
Before Dahyun could answer you, your phone chimed. Speak of the devil and he shall appear. Taehyung was meeting up with the homeroom teacher and said to go on ahead. "Nevermind." You commented. Sending him a thumbs up emoji, the two of you headed towards the train station.
The words of the popular medical school brightly shines on their homepage. Okay, you'll admit it! You were a bit curious and looked up some medical schools abroad and honestly some of their programs sounded good to you. There was also the ability to transfer and keep all your credits if you did decide to attend your local university.
What if you just attended the one here before you transfer...?
You could take that time to learn the language of the country, take some of the classes, get a part-time job to help pay... Hm... It honestly didn't sound that bad.
Before the thought could go away, you decided to apply. You watched as the payment went through and the successful page was brought up meaning that your application was sent. You can't believe you just did that.
Swiftly, you closed the lid of your laptop. Don't look at any more schools or else you're going to be sending an application to every single one! You got up from your seat, stretching and heading back to your bed.
You flopped on it, back aching a bit from hunching over and typing everything. Ah who were you kidding? You're not going to make it in. Sighing, you belittle yourself more and you think it was to save the disappointment of getting in.
This feels like a dream.
Blinking your eyes, you check to make sure that you can actually read. It's been two days, school is slowing down as teachers are finishing up the graded exams. Next week is the end of school before you're able to graduate. It feels almost surreal and that's why your brain is not processing the words written in your email.
You take a break, making sure you can read the other words on a different text. No, you can still read. You're in disbelief when your eyes reread the acceptance letter to the university you applied to abroad. "I got in... I got in?!" You let out a weird scream mixed with surprise and disbelief.
Quickly, you rush out of your room, accidentally slamming the door in the process. It scared your poor parents and you shoved your phone in their faces. "Wait, I need my glasses." Your dad said.
As one parent did that, your other parent gasped. "You got in?!" They shoved the phone towards the parent who had yet to read it to give you a hug. Both of them gushed over your achievement. "Let's go out to celebrate!"
Munching away at your favorite food in your favorite restaurant, you were riding high on serotonin. The thought of doing some general classes here at the local university and transferring to another was sounding like a good idea. As you talked with your parents of the possibilities, a familiar voice called out to you.
"Oh, Y/N!" Taehyung smiled at you. You greeted him as he came closer to the table. "Hello, I'm Y/N's friend from school, Kim Taehyung." He politely bowed at your parents. "It's nice to meet you." He charmed them with his boxy smile.
Your parents greeted him, pleased with his friendly manners. "Sorry for interrupting." Taehyung apologized. "I'll be off but see you at school, Y/N!" He said his goodbyes and left the restaurant.
"So polite!"
You nodded as you continued to enjoy your food. You're glad that your parents like Taehyung. He was a nice friend.
"Whichever you choose, I'll support you." Dahyun smiled at you.
You were hanging out with her today and finally spilled the beans. She was a bit shocked at first but understood your hesitation. Going abroad was a big move and it would allow you the chance of finally becoming a doctor.
"Thanks." You voiced your thoughts. "I think I still want to go here but after I complete most of my classes, I think I want to finish the advanced ones abroad."
Both of you managed to dodge the crowds of people. Of course it would be packed in this area, afterall, it's a relaxing Sunday. The shops lining the street had their merchandise out in front, hoping to entice some customers. A couple of them almost got you.
"I'll be honest and say that's a good idea. You could take the generals and probably the more basic classes before moving." Dahyun replied almost instantly. "You'll also save some money."
The two of you let out a laugh knowing that university always takes large amounts of money. It was a good idea to come out today. You felt like you needed it as your parents already bragged about your acceptance to family and friends. Especially that one friend who your parents never liked.
It's when Dahyun pulls you into a store that you sense someone watching. You glance around, looking at the crowds of people. Some glanced at you and others kept walking. You shrugged it off. It's just a bunch of people and why are you even wondering anyway?
