"Is that clear?"
You nod.
"Repeat what I just said." Taehyung's eyes stare you down, daring you to speak against him.
"Your parents are coming by briefly..." You utter the first sentence he said to you. "I need to keep quiet and make no noise. That includes flushing the toilet."
Taehyung smiles. "Yes and what else?"
"If I disobey..." You pause and finally manage to speak the rest of the words. "I will be tied up and even worse..."
"I can trust you to be good, right?" Taehyung asks you. When it takes you a moment longer to respond, there is now an edge to his voice. "Y/N..." He drags your name out.
"Y-Yes."
He finally smiles at you with that boxy smile. "Good, good." At last, he stands up from when he was crouching before you. "I'll be back later." Then Taehyung slowly makes his way downstairs.
You bit your lip in anticipation. Your eyes glance to a small bag of snacks to keep while you're up here. Should you break his rules? First, you need to be aware of your surroundings. Slowly, you got up and first went to the skylight that seemed to be the only window to the outside world. It was high up.
Frowning, you decided the bright idea was to find sturdy boxes. You went to the first box you spotted and tested it by placing a foot on it. The flaps of the box gave in underneath the pressure. There were quite a lot of boxes to go through, so you went to work.
There's three boxes left and you have at least a few to stack. So far, there's four piled underneath the skylight. Two serving as the base of your small pyramid and one on top. You're hoping that at least two more boxes are sturdy and you think you can reach the skylight.
That's when you hear it.
Multiple voices.
In your head, your mind is practically screaming at you to rush and bang at the door. On the other hand, your body is paralyzed with fear of Taehyung hurting you. You stand there and your heart beats in your chest as the voices seem to be louder now.
Multiple scenarios are running through your head.
What if his parents are just like him? What do you do then? Slowly, they go away and it's like you can finally breathe again. Shaky breaths leave your mouth as you continue your task. The first box is a no-go. The second box is a success! Your third box. Your foot puts pressure and it doesn't cave in.
Quickly but quietly as possible, you put the remaining boxes in your pyramid. Carefully, you climb them and reach the top. The skylight is in your reach. You still have to stretch some a bit but that's okay. The sunlight is blinding you a bit as you squint to block it out as much as possible. You find a latch and your heart beats in anticipation.
It opens.
But it's disappointing.
The skylight doesn't open fully all the way. It barely opens about an inch, only enough for your fingers to slip through. You curse and close the damn thing with too much force. The action makes you shift the box underneath your weight. Oh no. You crash into the ground, making a lot of noise.
Fuck! Fuck, fuck. Fuck!
You panic and try moving the boxes almost to where the spots were before and you hurry back to your corner. Quickly, you put a box on its side and put yourself in an awkward position of halfway lying down and sitting up.
Footsteps are heard and you try to calm yourself down. The door opens and quick footsteps rush upstairs. Taehyung enters the room just as you're pretending to rub your eyes. "I-I'm so sorry!" You whisper-yell it. "I was sleeping a-and-" Your voice is shaky in fear.
Taehyung shushes you. "It's okay Y/N." He goes over to your spot and scoots the box away from you. "I'll make an excuse. Only a couple of more days."
Days...? What?
Before you can answer anything, he disappears. You sigh to yourself, frustrated at everything. You will be getting out of here.
You're doing your best, looking through multiple boxes. So far, you can't find an item similar to what you're looking for. Digging through another box, you came across something similar. Wrapping paper. It'll have to do and now to find a writing instrument.
Honestly, the best plan you can come up with is writing a message and sticking it out of the skylight. It's really not the best idea but you're going with it. There's possibilities of it getting ripped to shreds, being picked up as litter and others. But it's a chance.
Going through another box, you freeze slightly when you hear footsteps approach. Carelessly, you toss the paper behind a pile of boxes and hurry to your corner. With bated breath, you wait for anything to happen.
But no one comes up.
You slowly get up and resume your search. It's at the bottom of one box that you spot a pen. Hope fills within you and you grab it. Clicking it, you write on one of the sides of the box. No ink comes out. You lick the tip and scratch it once more. It works.
Happy tears well up at the corner of your eyes. You scrawl out a message on the wrapping paper and rip it off.
The address of where you were and your name with a messy 'help me' at the bottom.
Like before, you move your sturdy boxes back into a pyramid. Quickly, you climb on top of it and open the latch. You slid the wrapping paper out and the wind did its job. The wind tears it out of your hand and carries it off to who knows where.
At least you did something. Hopefully.
You've known that another day has gone by.
Taehyung visited you last night. He apologized, saying that his parents will be staying another week. He also reminded you to keep quiet and you took it seriously. How could you not when your eyes widened in fear of the large knife he had at his side.
He only used it to cut the apple he brought to you but you felt the meaning behind his words. You can't chance it. He sat there, talking to you in a hushed whisper as he cut the apple into smaller pieces.
The boy in front of you delicately placed the plate of fruit right in front of you. "Do you like flowers?" He asked suddenly.
"What?" You answered. Your alarm bells are going off.
"Word on the street is that someone bought an entire flower shop's inventory. I don't have much money, but do you want that?" His eyes stared at you, making you squirm.
"I-I don't."
Taehyung nodded. "Ok, when my parents leave, I'll take you on a little trip." He stated without your permission.
You stared at him with no emotion. You don't want that. Apparently, your lack of expression made Taehyung worry.
"Are you sick?" He frowned. "You're not making a face. You would be smiling now."
Your eyes glance towards how he grips the knife tighter. A forced smile forms on your face and then Taehyung relaxes. "That's better. I love seeing you make these kinds of faces." He stands up. "I'll see you tomorrow right before lunch."
Then he leaves.
You drop your smile and stare at the sliced pieces of the apple. Still, you eat them and your stomach growls. You're eating less food now and your stomach is in knots. For the night, you curl back up in your corner, waiting for the sun to fill the room.
This time Taehyung didn't keep his promise.
Happiness fills you for once. You wonder why he hasn't showed up but you don't care. You relish in the silence.
