It's unfair, I know, but it will be even more so if you punish yourself for what others and other things/events have done to you. So be kind to yourself.
And for the people who prefer more of a subtle unhealthy coping mechanism of neglecting themselves by being too kind to others, in my language there is this one saying that translates something like this: too much of a modest saint is not good in God's eyes either.
