( The next day, with Meryl )
Meryl was trying to catch some fish with a bow and a few arrows that she had made to get some food for her and the night fury while ignoring the pain in her hand, but he hid behind a boulder when she saw Hiccup coming in the cove with a fish and a roll of bandages. She watched as the night fury creeps out from behind a rock about ten feet away from where she was hiding. The night fury sniffs at Hiccup and the fish, and slowly approaches, then retreats upon seeing Hiccup's knife. Realizing that the dragon feels threatened, Hiccup drops the knife. The night fury made a head gesture to Hiccup to get the knife further away. Hiccup then kicks the knife into the water. The night fury relaxes and quickly acts friendly, and slowly takes the fish from Hiccup's hand, revealing a toothless mouth.
Hiccup: Huh. Toothless. I could've sworn you had-
The night fury's teeth suddenly pop out of his gums and snatch the fish, and happily eats it.
Hiccup:-teeth.
The night fury then starts approaching Hiccup, pinning him against the rock Meryl was hiding behind. Meryl held in her laughter as the night fury regurgitated half of the fish and had Hiccup not only take a bite out of it, the dragon had Hiccup swallow it. Meryl then saw that the night fury was trying to copy a smile. The night fury then snarls and flies away when Hiccup reaches towards him. The night fury then ignites a small patch of dirt and sleeps on top of it.
Meryl then made a small whimper of pain when she accidentally touched the rock with her wounded hand, which caught Hiccup's attention. Hiccup then looked behind the rock and saw Meryl, who looked at him with frightened eyes. She made a small growl at him when he pulled out the roll of bandages.
Hiccup: ( calmly: ) It's okay. I just want to bandage your hand.
Meryl hesitantly let Hiccup hold her hand, and made a small whimper when he started removing the cloth that was wrapped around her wound.
Hiccup: Sorry.
When Hiccup removed the cloth he saw that the wound was small but looked incredibly painful and bleed a lot, he slowly and gently wrapped the bandages around the wound. When he finished bandaging her hand, she quickly pulled her hand away from Hiccup. Meryl slowly touched the rock, she felt only a slight pain in her hand, it caused her to cutely tilt her head to the side, before she growled at Hiccup and punched him in the stomach when he tried to reach to touch her. Meryl then climbed to the top of the rock to keep a distance from Hiccup.
Hiccup: ( in pain as he held his stomach: ) Good punch.
Meryl: ( growls ) No touch...
Hiccup: ( groans in pain ) Noted.
After some time, Meryl was now a dragon and was still on top of the rock with her human body while the night fury who she was now mentally calling Toothless was sleeping hanging upside down from a tree like a bat. Meryl then noticed Hiccup drawing something in the sand, which woke Toothless up. Meryl watched the two with slight curiosity and amusement.
When Toothless runs away after he touched his nose to Hiccup's hand. Hiccup turned around when he heard something something dragging on the ground. He then saw that Meryl was now a dragon and was using her stinger to draw something in the ground next to Toothless's 'drawing'. Hiccup looked at the drawing and saw that she draw Toothless giving Hiccup the half fish. Hiccup playfully glared at her, and she playfully sticks out her black forked dragon tongue at him. Hiccup then watched as Meryl walked to her human body and saw the dragon turn into a spirit and go back into Meryl's body, she then woke up in her human body. Meryl sit up and tilted her head when she saw the shock expression on Hiccup's face.
Hiccup: How did- that was amazing.
Meryl laughed slightly before she climbed down the rock. She then hesitantly held her hand out to Hiccup, offering a hand shake with a nervous expression.
Meryl: Meryl.
Hiccup: ( smiled slightly and shook Meryl's hand ) Hiccup.
Meryl: I know. Why are you not scared of me?
Hiccup: Why would I?
Meryl: I am a Scalewalker, you know " Ah, demon! Kill it! Kill it! ". That whole deal.
Hiccup: ( chuckled ) Well, I don't think you're a demon, I think you're just... different.
Meryl then gave Hiccup the dorkiest and cutest smile he had ever seen before.
Cut to on top the watch tower at night. Gobber was telling the teens a story.
Gobber: And with one twist, he took my hand, and swallowed it whole. And I saw the look on his face: I was delicious. He must have passed the word, because it wasn't a month before another one of them took my leg.
Fishlegs: Isn't it weird to think that your hand was inside a dragon? Like if your mind was still in control of it, you could have killed the dragon from the inside by crushing his heart or something.
Snotlout: I swear, I'm so angry right now! I'll avenge your beautiful hand and your beautiful foot. I'll chop off the legs of every dragon I fight. With my face!
Gobber: Uh-unh. It's the wings and tails you really want. If it can't fly, it can't get away. A downed dragon is a dead dragon. Alright. I'm off to bed. You should be, too. Tomorrow we get to the big boys. Slowly but surely making your way to the monstrous nightmare. But who'll win the honor of killing it?
After hearing what Gobber said, Hiccup ignored what the other teens were saying and headed to the forge.
( Meanwhile with Meryl )
Meryl was a dragon and was soaring through the night sky above the cove with a smile while carrying Toothless by his front legs with her front claws, as she was trying to cheer him up.
Meryl: Ain't this great, buddy?
Toothless growled in disagreement, as he was not enjoying being carried around like a doll.
Meryl: Oh, cheer up, at least you're in the air. Plus, I'm sure you'll be able to fly again some day. Maybe even tomorrow!
