Chapter 7

Meryl was in the cove with Toothless as Hiccup told her that it would be safer for her to stay away from the Arena. Meryl had a worried expression as she had a bad feeling about the final exam.

Meryl: Mery, stop worrying, you need to trust that he'll be-

Toothless and Meryl then heard Hiccup's screams.

Meryl: Hiccup!

Meryl quickly forced her human self to go to sleep and transformed into a dragon, she and Toothless raced to the Arena, Meryl had her human body on her back.

Meryl carefully dropped her body close to outside the Arena, before she and Toothless burst through the Arena's railing and jumped into the arena. Meryl and Toothless started fighting the Monstrous Nightmare as the smoke clears, revealing themselves to the Vikings.

Gobber: Night Fury! Dragon!

Meryl roared angrily at the Monstrous Nightmare as she and Toothless started attacking him to protect Hiccup.

Hiccup: Toothless, Mery, go! Get out of here!

Vikings: Night Fury!

As the Vikings ran into the arena to Meryl and Toothless, the Nightmare scratched Meryl's shoulder, leaving a wound that not only form on Meryl's dragon body, but it appears on Meryl's human body as well, Gobber gasped as he found Meryl's sleeping human self laying on the floor, assuming that she was attacked by a dragon while trying to go to the arena.

Gobber: Poor lass... Gothi!

Meryl was tackled to the ground by some vikings, and watched as Hiccup was pulled away from her and Toothless. She tried to open her mouth to say something, but it was forcefully closed shut by a viking.

( Slight Time skip )

Meryl and Toothless were chained up to a ship, while Meryl's human body was in Gothi's hut, in a bed as the Vikings believe that she was placed into a coma.

Stoick: Lead us human, Devils.

Meryl: ( silently, in dragon to not blow her cover as a Scalewalker: ) The only devil here is you, Stoick the Vast. Not even the gods themselves will ever forgive you for what you are doing.

Hiccup watched with sorrowful eyes as he watched the Vikings leave with Toothless and Meryl. Astrid went to Hiccup, as she looked at the leaving ships.

Astrid: It's a mess. You must feel horrible. You've lost everything. Your father, your tribe, your best friend, Meryl...

Hiccup: Thank you for summing that up. Why couldn't I have killed that dragon when I found him and Meryl in the woods? It would have been better for everyone.

Astrid: Yep. The rest of us would have done it, except Meryl. So why didn't you? Why didn't you?

Hiccup: I don't know. I couldn't.

Astrid: That's not an answer.

Hiccup: Why is this so important to you all of a sudden?

Astrid: Because Meryl's life depends on what you say, right now.

Hiccup: Oh, for the love of- I was a coward! I was weak! I wouldn't kill a dragon!
