Nothing about my dad's house makes it special. Except the fact that it's the most modern house that I've ever seen. He lives on a private street with 5 other houses, all detached.
"I'll give you a quick tour if you like." My dad offered.
"Um, I think I'll find my way around here easily" I tell him. He raises his hands as in defeat.
"I'll at least carry your stuff to your room." He offers. I smile at him and let him lead the way. The stairs had no banister so I'm surprised my dad didn't fall with my stuff. It was Tuesday morning and my dad had already had my uniform out on my bed. My bed room was on the other side of the house with a balcony that had a set of table and chairs on. Inside my room was a double bed with a white side table and lamp on top. I had an en-suite with a shower inside. One wall was teal while the others were white. On the teal wall, I had shelves fitted on where I was going to have my books. I had a medium sized built in wardrobe with door sized mirrors fitted on. The positive I saw of it was that it took up no space in my room. I had a desk where my laptop was already charging on and a pull out sofa bed.
"I'll leave your bags here." He said whilst putting my bags on my sofa. "Get ready for school, I took the liberty to ask your friend Austin to take you." I spun around.
"How do you know Austin?"
"Your mum told me. I have to get going, you going to be alright?" He asked.
"See you later." I say instead of answering. He just walks out my room and a short while later, I hear him close the front door. I scrambled into my uniform so I could call Stacey quicker. She picked up on the second ring.
"Hello?"
"Stace!"
"Hey, how's the house? Missing us already?"
"Of course! Stace, you'd love it here! When are you going to visit?" She paused.
"I don't know if I can, my mum thinks it's too far. Sorry."
"Don't worry about it." I lied. I then hear my doorbell. Austin must be here to pick me up.
"I have to go, bye Stacey." I hang up before she reply. I run down the stairs and find Austin in the boy version of the uniform. He was in a blazer and tie with trousers where as I had the option of a blazer or jumper, tie and a skirt with tights. I chose the blazer, well actually my dad did.
"Ready for your first day?" Austin asked with his hands in his pocket. His fringe swooped over the top of his glasses. Wait,
"Since when did you have glasses?" I asked. He chuckled.
"I need them for reading and I lost the case for them so I need to wear them." He explained. I grabbed my bag and keys. I slammed the door behind me and locked the house. If it was Drake with me, he would have made a comment about me slamming the door. I hopped into the back of his motorbike and popped the helmet on.
"Hold on he said." Through his helmet. I wrapped my arms around him.
On arrival to the motorbike section in the car park, a lot of people came over.
"Austin mate!" On guy said with his hand out to greet him. Austin accepted and they gave each other a type of hug.
"Bill mate, this is Cassie." Austin said gesturing towards me. Bill moved over to me.
"Alright." He greeted to me.
"Hi." I replied realising how awkward this looked.
"Cassie, these are my friends." Austin said whilst we clambered off the motorbike and swinging his bag over his shoulder.
"Names later." Bill told me. Just as we were walking towards the school, my phone went off. It was a message from Drake.
Good luck today Case! Just one thing, please keep away from Austin and his group of friends, they're bad news. If possible, I'd tell you why but, you're just going to have to trust me...please. "Cassie?" Austin called. I looked up and tucked my phone on the inside of my pocket in my blazer before catching up.
"Linda here said she'll look after you today." Austin said whilst pointing over to a girl who was stick thin. She smiled at me and linked her arm with mine before leading me to my first lesson. I turn back to see Austin looking worried yet all his friends are looking smug.
At lunchtime, I found a bench away from the school by myself. First days are always tough. I get my textbook out to catch up on missed work.
"Cassie!" I hear someone call. I look up and I see her. Jaz.
"What are you doing here?!" I ask without getting up.
"Drake told me about Austin...avoid him!" She pleaded.
"Why? What has he done?"
"I...I can't say." She admits whilst looking away. Unbelievable.
"If you want me to stay away from him, you have to tell me what he's done!"
"Okay..." she starts, "but you can't say a word of this to anyone!" I nod along. She takes a deep breath. "It's not him per say but the people he hangs around with. They are using him to get to you and he knows it!"
"But why me? Why do they need to drag Austin into this?"
"Because they know how you two once were and that's what they're using against him. They want you because of what you can do"
"Which is?" I ponder. "You keep saying you will tell me well, now's the right time." She looks around which I guess is to make sure that no one sees. She sits herself opposite me.
"What you can do in your dreams, you can do in reality!"
"You've lost me." I state. She rolls her eyes and sighs.
"It's hard to explain but here we go; if you put your mind to things, you can do things that no other person can do."
"Like super powers?" I laugh.
"If you want to put it that way then yes." I laugh even more. "What's so funny?" She demands. I had to pull myself together.
"It's just so pathetic and unbelievable! Even Justin could make up better fibs than that!" I tell her.
"Believe what you want but remember what I told you! Drake, Stacey and I can't protect you anymore whilst you're here." She warns.
"Anymore?" I question. She looks at me with sadness in her eyes.
"You're not safe and you never had been. Those nightmares you were having were warnings." She's starting to scare me. Before I could ask another question, she had gotten up and left. I turned around to see Austin, Linda and Bill. Bill had a stern look on his face which made my mind tell me to run for my life.
"You coming over to hang out with us?" Linda asked. After what Jaz just told me, I wanted to avoid them.
"Um, no thanks, going to do some work." I told them. Bills expression changed for the worse. He nudges Austin closer, probably to use him against me. He looks me in the eyes with a desperate look.
"Please Cassie." Austin pleaded with his hand out for me. I take the offer for his sake.
Whilst walking back to the others in the canteen, Austin and I stayed behind them.
"Austin, please explain what's going on." I plead. He looks up, bites his lip and takes a deep breath. He looks at me, takes my hand and squeezes it.
"Later, can't talk here." He warns. He then remove his hand from mind leaving me with the feeling of solitude.
