"Cassidy!" My mother yells from downstairs. I'm all cozied up in my bed and unfortunately, it's a school day. "Breakfast is on the table, I'm off to work, see you later!" I burry myself under my duvets even more. I didn't even hear my younger brother come in my room.
"Wake up lazy bones!" He shouts whilst yanking my duvet off me and running out the room with it as a cape. "Justin!" I scream, "Ugh, you are so annoying! I can't believe I'm related to you sometimes!" I call out to him as I drag myself out of bed.
I skip breakfast and force Justin to get ready for another school day. Life has been tough for us since dad left. I want to go find him, drag him home and get him to help! But knowing him, he wouldn't bother. My eldest brother, Max, often comes over from University to help. However, he needs help to wash his mountains of clothes he returns with.
Whilst in my trail of thought, I hear my phone go off. I rush over to it to see if it's from Stacey my best friend. It's not, it's from Drake. Drake and I go back since when we were 5. Our mums have been best friends since 18 and now we live 5 doors away from one another.
Hey Cassie, are we walking to school today or not? I'm outside. HURRY UP C!
I look to the clock in haste, it's 8:15am and I should have met him 5 minutes ago! I reply as fast as my thumbs will go.
Shoot! Sorry, just coming now. Had to sort out the thing I have to call a brother.
"Justin! Come on now, we need to leave!" I cry out. I hear him thump down the stairs and brush pass me whilst he leaves the house. I sigh and swiftly follow after. As I look outside, I see Drake waiting whilst in a different world with his music playing in his ears. He doesn't notice me until I slammed my door shut and locked it.
"What did that door ever do to you?!" He said jokingly whilst removing an earphone.
"Hey, I just need to insure myself that the door is definitely locked" I replied laughing. Drake always makes me laugh but we don't talk much in school. Our mums tried to set us up at 14 but we decided not to. Now at 17, I wouldn't mind to be honest but, he's popular and I'm not. He's the captain of the rugby team and I'm the least sporty person you'll ever meet.
"Come on! Let's get going. Hopefully we'll catch up to your annoying brother" he says chuckling whilst he picks up his bag off the ground. His smile has nearly all the girls in my year at his feet. Walking to school in Liverpool is actually quite pleasant. I used to walk to school with my dad and Max and we'd just talk about all the features that make each building unique to the others .Dad would always buy us breakfast from somewhere as mum was always busy with work and sorting out Justin. Drake promised me that we'd walk the same route to school when my dad left...he's never broken his promise. I look over at Drake, I don't remember a time when he's ever broken a promise to me.
"What?" he asks. I smile to myself.
"Nothing, just thinking."
"About...?"
"Well that's for me to know!" I tease. He laughs and shakes his head.
"Oh Cass," he starts, "what are we going to do with you?" I shrug my shoulders.By the time we get to school, he gets bombarded with is rugby mates and I get dragged off with Stacey. However, we always look back and wave.
"Cassie! Have you heard?" Stacey shrikes. She always has some sort news to tell me nearly every day.
"No Stace, as per usual! What is it?" I reply with a sigh.
"Next time I have news, sound more enthusiastic!" She complains. "Anyway, there's this new girl joining today and no one knows anything about her! Weird 'ey?"
"No not really. After all, she has moved here!" I say.
"True. Maybe you can get to know her!" She suggests.
"Gee, trying to get rid of me?!" I joke. She sighs.
"That's not what I meant. It's just...." She starts. Here it comes, a Stacey special, 'Deep talk about how bad your life is'. I brace myself.
"Drake and I are pretty much your only friends!"
True
"And maybe another friend may do you good because you decide what they know about you."
I hate it when she's right and she always is! The bell rings and she waves off whilst she skips to assembly with her other friends. I slowly make my way over to the hall."Morning students," our headmaster speaks. "We have a new student joining us today. She's called Jazmine. Please say hello if you see her today." I doubt she'll even say hello back if I see her but, it won't hurt.
