I can tell I’m in a dream as I’m somewhere I’ve never been before. I’m not scared, I’m used to these dreams. I’m standing in a green coated field with flowers sprouting out of the ground. Around me are people having fun, children squealing whilst they play tag. I can’t help but chuckle to myself. Lost in the moment, a shadow looms over us. Everyone scrambles away and I just stay standing there. I’m not afraid for some reason, I’ve been here before.
“Seize her!” I hear a leader command. I turn around to see 5 men running towards me in the direction they were ordered to. I kneel down, clamp my eyes shut and imagined a ring of fire around me. When I open my eyes, the fire is there. I stand up like I’m about to fight. The men scurry back to their leader.
“You can’t hide forever!” the leader calls out above the flames. All his men are leaving and he’s the last to go. I don’t see his face. “I will stop you and have what I want, Cassidy” He stated. I gasped.
I woke up with sweat trickling down my face. Lights are overhead and I have no idea where I am. I sit up out of fear. A hand presses on my shoulder.
“Oh my gosh, Cassie! Don’t do that to me ever again!” cried Stacey whilst she turns me around to hug me. I pat her on the back, I’ve never been much of a hugger. I look over her shoulder. Jaz is there, she looks worried. She avoids eye contact with me. Standing next to her to calm her down is Drake. Why would he be here?
“Stace, what happened?” I ask. The only memory I have is the dream.
“You passed out!” she replies with a worried tone.
“Then where am I? What’s with all the commotion?” I dread the answer.
“Cassie, you passed out 2 days ago! You’ve been out cold!” She emphasises. This is too much for me to process. I hear the door open and close. I see Jaz and Drake looking at me with pity in their eyes.
“You alright Cass?” asks Drake, he is the only one who calls me that. I smile and nod.
“What happened?” Jaz demands. I look at her. I feel so weak but I try my best to explain.
“Basically, I keep passing out. No one know why. When I was younger, they tried to get me to tell them what I feel and see before it happens. They never believed me…” I say whilst looking away from her.
“Why not?!” she expressed.
“Because it sounds silly!” I stated. She crosses her arms.
“Try me” she dares. I sigh.
“I get very cold, my vision changes…” whilst saying this, I can see that her eye are widening and her arms are falling to her sides. “And I see what’s not there. It sounds pathetic, I know” I say whilst looking down at my hands. They’re slightly crooked from all my piano lessons I’ve had since I was 5. I look back up to see that she had left the room and disappeared.
“Shall I go look for her?” Drake askes whilst pointing out the room. Stacey nods and I watch him leave.
“Your mum will be her soon” Stacey says smoothly whilst stroking my hair.
An hour later, my mum turned up with Justin and Max. Stacey left to find Drake and Jaz. My mum simply smiles before taking a phone call. Justin jumps onto my bed and nearly crushes my legs. Max smiles and gives me a big hug. He’s wasting away at Uni. Justin is telling us a story about his new game and honestly, only Max is paying attention. I look out the glass door to see mum shouting down the phone. Max turns to see what I’m looking at.
“She’s trying to convince dad that you should stay with him for a while, to see if it does you any good.” Max admits.
“He won’t, you know dad” I say whilst turning to him. I remember when dad left. Max became my best friend, I was only 10. Justin was 5 and Max was 13. Max and dad haven’t had the best relationship since he left, Max pretty much hates him. Max and I both agree that Justin is his favourite kid because he only remembers his birthday. Then again, I’ve done fine without him.
“Doctors say you can come home now! But suggest you don’t go to school for the rest of the week.” My mum says whilst she enters the room.
“That’s unfair!” Justin exclaims. We all laughed and Max scuffled with his hair.
