Chapter 15

When we pulled up at my house, neither of us moved. We stayed on the motorcycle in silence whilst we removed our helmets. I notice that my dad's car is not on the driveway so I presume he's still at work. Austin turns his head to the side. "Are we able to talk alone?" He asked. I swung off the back and lead him inside.

"Let's talk in my room, I don't know when my dad will return." I tell him as we walk along the corridor. He doesn't say anything but because he follows me, I take that as an okay. Once inside, I suddenly felt awkward. We both sit on the sofa and wait...wait for him to start telling me what's going on.

"Okay," he breaks the silence, "please don't get mad with me at any point! Promise?" He looks me in the eyes, waiting for my response.

"I promise." I reassure him. He nods and sighs.

"Bill, Linda and them lot aren't to be trusted. They're working for someone who's trying to get to you...and they're using me to get to you. We all know about your passing outs and dreams, they planted them to get you to move. You should have stayed in Liverpool. Your friends in Liverpool were only trying to look out for you, like I am, because...this is going to sound ridiculous."

"Please Austin! Tell me." I plead.

"Just like you, we aren't exactly humans..." It takes me a minute for what he just said to process through my mind. "We are! But not 'normal' humans. Basically, we can do things that we're not supposed to technically do." I breathe heavily, pull my knees up to my chin and burry myself. I think back to what Jaz told me earlier...she was right. "Cass? Please say something" Austin pleaded. I look up at him.

"How long have you known I was like this?" I ask him as he obviously knows.

"Just before I left, Drake told me. I'm surprised you two never got together after I left." He admits. I roll my eyes.

"Does Stacey know?"

"Yes."

"So why didn't anyone tell me sooner?!" I demanded.

"Because no one knew that your mum was going to send you away! We need to send you back, you're not safe here!" he exclaims.

"I'd say listen to your friend there but, I wouldn't." A guy warned.

 We looked at my door to find him there, the man I keep seeing in my dreams.

"You stay away from here!" Austin ordered as he got up. The guy flicks his hand to the wall and sends Austin flying across my room. I stood up and backed myself against the wall.

"Why me?" I cried out.

"Because, my child, you're the powerful child out of you and your brothers." He mocked.

"How do you know about my brothers?" He laughed at my comment.

"What type of father do you think I am?!"

No

"It was only a matter of time before your mother shipped you off to me. Once I heard you were passing out, I decided to plant a seed of fear and appear in dreams to lure you out of safety." He continues. This can't be true. My knees give way and I fall down the wall till I'm sat on the floor.

"I must say, I was very impressed with your gifts! Stronger than I imagined." He sounded pleased with me for once in my life. "Together, we can be even better and rule people like us! Starting with the kind your friend Jaz is." My head shot up at her name.

"I am not going to let you hurt her!" I warn. He crouches down beside me.

"But we're going to be working together and whilst their defences are down, now is the perfect time for us to attack!" He says. My breathing starts to get really heavy and I start to get light headed. I looked over at Austin to see that he is still not moving and lying on the floor. I'm trapped. I then think about Jaz told me however, due to the state I'm in, I struggle to put my mind to it. That doesn't stop me though. I imagine a big gust of wind throwing my father back away from me but nothing happens. Come on! I tell myself but nothing. I close my eyes to block everything out. I try again. I think about him being flown across my room. I feel a weird sensation flow through me and as I open my eyes, my dad is thrown across my room and collides with the wall opposite. I rush over on my hands and knees to Austin.

"Austin!" I say whilst giving him a little shake. I look up to see my dad trying to regain his strength. "Austin!" I repeat. This time, I hear him moan. I feel someone's arm wrap around me. I scream in fear. They quickly put their hand over my mouth to shut me up.

"Cassie! Sshh, it's me." I hear a girl voice speak. I look up to see Stacey, she removes her hand from my mouth and helps me up. I look pass her to see Jaz checking on Austin. I turn to see Drake keeping an eye on my dad.

"Quickly now! We've got to get going!" Drake ordered. As we started to leave, I notice that no one has Austin. I grab Drake by the wrist.

"Please Drake, we need him or he'll be killed!" I pleaded whilst point at Austin. He takes a moment's thought, sighs and picks Austin up in a fireman lift.

"Go!" He ordered. We race pass my dad, out my room and then out the house. Drake throws Austin into the back of a car before going in the driver's side. Jaz and Stacey help to get Austin in the car properly. I turn around to see my dad at the front door. I stumble back and trip over.

This, my child, is not over. You will be by my side when we take over these mythical creatures and watch them turn on each other. He speaks to me in my mind. I start to cry and I crawl up into a little ball. I hear a door open and close before footsteps run towards me.

"Come on Cass." Drake says whilst helping me up.

"Never!" I call back to my dad who is now on his hands a knees. He looks up and his eyes have turned to black orbs. Drake leads me to the car, buckles me in and goes back to the driver's side himself. I see Stacey in the back with both Justin in the middle and myself.

I look out the window whilst we drive back to Liverpool. I feel a hand press mine. I look to see Austin looking at me.

"We're still not safe" he warns. Stacey leans over and Jaz turns around.

"What's going on?" Drake asks.

"It's Austin." Stacey tells him.

"You're not safe Cassie! He will get to you and we will be at risk as mythical creatures." He carries on. "You must hide. Away from here where he won't look for you." I look around at the others and they don't say a word to me. Austin falls asleep swiftly. We drive in silence and I pretend to fall asleep.

"Maybe he's right." Stacey stated to the others. "What can we do otherwise? A mermaid, Nephilim, Angel and wolf trying to protect a witch? That's never going to work." Stacey continues. They sit in silence which I presume means that they're thinking.

"If her dad gets what he wants, she'll be more powerful than she already is." Jaz states. We pull over and Drake cuts the engine.

"Then we do what we can to protect her." He says with pity.

"I just wish there was another way" Jaz admits. I hold back the tears and the lump in my throat.
