By morning, I'd made it to Warrington. I hitched a few rides here and there, I made sure it wasn't for long. I often thought about checking my phone to see if any of them had message me but it was best to leave them in the past.
I have no idea how I'm going to get to my Dad's, if he still lives there. I found a near-by café with very little people gathering inside. I head over to the till and was greeted by a girl.
"Hi honey, what can I get you?" she offered. I scanned the menu for something I felt like eating.
"Um, a strawberry milkshake for now." I reply with. She gives me a smile and turns around to start making it. "Excuse me," I start, "have you got a phone I can borrow please?" I ask. She finishes off the milkshake, brings it over to me and wipes her hand on her apron. "Sure! It will charge you after a minute foe every 30 seconds." She said as she hands me her company's phone. I smile at her, take a sip of my drink and start dialling a number in. After 3 dials, they picked up.
"Hello?""It's me."
"Well, well, well...Cassidy. I heard you left your friends and family. Ready to be picked up?" Bill asked.
"I need you to take me to my Dad...I'll help."
"See you in 5." With that, the phone call died. I placed down to the side and collapsed my head onto the counter.
"That'll be £2.50 love." The waitress asked. I dig into my pockets, find loose change and leave them on the counter. I decide to wait outside for Bill to arrive. The weather is somewhat decent as a cool breeze comes over me. I start to think about Liverpool and the state my mum would be in when she finds the message. I start to cry until suddenly, screeching of car wheels and gun shots snapped me out. I threw myself onto the ground before looking for where the sound was coming from. When I felt like the coast was clear, I got up only to find a car watching me. I start running and the car chases like a cat and mouse game. I turn around to see if I can lose the car at any time and know what is actually chasing. Whilst running, I think about what Jaz told me last time in Warrington. I stop, turn around and face my opponent. I raise one of my hands and close my eyes. "Come on Cassie, think! You can do this. Come on, come on, come on!" I imagine the car flipping over my head and crashing behind me. As I open my eyes, I feel a sense of power rush through me as I watch the car flip to its abyss. I passed out and smacked my head against the floor. I felt my blood trickle down my face before I was completely out of it.I was in my dream state. I had no idea if this was my dad's idea or just out of old habit. I sat up and rubbed my head. It killed. I looked around to notice that I was in the back field of my old school back in Liverpool. I decided to head inside to see if I could find some answers. Everything was quiet which had me worried. I headed towards the canteen to see if anyone was there. Sat inside was Mia, the friend of Jaz. "Hey again." She started. She was sat on the table where I used to sit with the others. "I didn't know where would be the best location for our chat but I knew that the location of the car incident wouldn't have been the best for." I smiled awkwardly at her.
"What do you want then? I mean, there must be a reason why you brought me here." I ask of her.
"If you continue this path you're taking, you will lose. And someone will have to suffer and others will have to clean up your mess. Lives will be lost. Think about it." She goes all deep and sentimental.
"But the path before would have ended the same way! I did this to save my friends and family. No one else. And if you don't like it, don't bring me here next time!" I yelled at her. I then decided to leave and wake myself up.When I opened my eyes, I could tell that I was no longer outside. I could feel something pinching one of my fingers. My arms had been placed next to my sides and I was lying perfectly straight as if I had died. My vision was blurry but I could tell that someone was standing over me, shining a light in my eye.
"Cassidy, can you hear me?" The figure asked. Where had I heard that voice before? I kept blink that my vision would return to being clear.
"Dr Kay, is she okay?" I heard him ask. My dad. He must have found me on the side of the road. But, what is Dr Kay doing here in Warrington? I thought she was from Liverpool.
"She should be, she seems to be coming around. Cassidy?" She asked of me again. The only thing I could do was grumble, hoping they would understand that I can hear what they're saying. I feel his hand rest on my forehead and start stoking my hair. I try to shake him off but it's no use. He manages to keep his hand firm on my head.
"Don't worry, Cass, everything will be okay." He says. He knows I hate it when he calls me Cass, only my friends can call me that. I look him in the eyes and glare at him.
"I hate you" I murmured through my lips, "and I wish I wasn't your daughter!" He grips around my chin tightly.
"You'll learn to love me as your father soon enough." He threatens. We then heard a cough come from behind him. He lets go and we see Dr Kay standing there.
"Sorry to disturb you but I need to talk to your daughter in private." She requested. He pulled a fake smile, turned back to face me and left. Dr Kay closed the curtains around us. I hoisted myself up so I was sat up and she sat on the end of the bed. I waited for her to start.
"Listen to me, you made a big mistake coming here to Warrington. You don't understand the lengths your dad is going to for this war." She started.
"How do you know about this?" I question. She sighs to herself, looks down to her hands and then back to me.
"Because he threatened me. Your friends didn't find me out of the blue that time at the beach, he set it all up. He knew you were going to pass out and planted the thought into your friend's head to find a near-by Doctor. Enter me." Her eyes starts to water up. "I feel so bad. He ruined my life; he turned me into the person I am today...a monster." By this point, she's crying her eyes out. I place my hand onto her back to comfort her.
"You're no monster, he is the monster. I only came here to protect my friends from him and I'm sorry he is treating you like this." I say to help make her feel better. "They are safe now, I know it." She looks up to look me in your eyes, "That's what he wants you to believe." What does she mean? The curtain is then drawn back and stood there was my dad. Dr Kay whipped her eyes and then left without looking back.
"Ready to go?"The drive to the house I was saved from last time hasn't changed. We drove over in complete silence, neither one of us wanted to talk. I looked out the window to see happy families going on holiday or drives. It reminded me of the life of when I was little and we were one family, not 2. I sighed to myself as the thought of my mum and brothers popped into my head, my mum must hate me so much right now. We pull up to the estate my dad lives on to pass to many houses isolated from their neighbours. As we pulled up onto the driveway, Austin was sitting on the door step. He had his hands clinched together resting on his knees and he was facing the floor in despair. My dad was first out the car surprisingly. He walked over to Austin and sat next to him like he was being a decent human being. I get out to get my stuff and go inside, I want to avoid Austin as I said my goodbye to him in Liverpool through a note. Just as I get to the boot of the car, my dad calls me. "Leave it Cassie, I'll sort it out later. For now, I need you to go do training."
"Training? What do you mean?" I question him. I take another look at Austin to realise that he is wearing fitness clothes.
"You'll find your training clothes on your bed." He finally spoke. I looked past him to see Linda and Bill in the doorway on the house. I look from them, to my dad and to Austin who was now looking up back at me. "We need you to train for this war sweetie." Dad stated.
"Don't call me that." I warned him. My fists clenched into fists. In a swift movement, Linda was standing next to me, holding me by the wrist. She has a stronger grip than you would have thought.
"Get ready, how else are you going to be fit enough? We will start with a run to a field where we will see your full potential for your power." She commanded me. I yanked my wrist out of her hand, walked past everyone including bumping into Bill's shoulder on purpose before heading to my room.My room hasn't changed one bit. Laid out on my bed was the training suit the others were on about. I got out of my clothes which I can only presumed I've been in for a few days and slid into my training outfit. The guessed my size spot on as it fitted me perfectly. I walked over to the mirror to tie my hair back. It occurred to me that I haven't looked at myself for a while now. I looked rough. I had bruises on my arms and a few on the side of my head. My cut from the car incident had been stitched back together with some dry blood circling it. I lifted my fingers to it only to see that my fingers hadn't changed from not playing the piano in some time. I opened them up in front of me and so many memories came flooding back. I was yanked out of the memories by a knock on the door. I looked over to see Austin poking his head in. "May I come in?" I nodded to him and tied back my hair. "I'm sorry Cassie, I had to come back to them and your dad. But it wasn't because I was siding with them." He starts.
"Really? Because that's what it looks like. If you're not here for them, then why are you here?" I snapped back at him. He walked over to me and leant on the wall.
"Honestly? I'm here for you and our friends in Liverpool. We got your message. We all knew it was not safe for all of us to come here for you."
"So you drew the short straw?" I asked. He chucked and smiled to himself.
"No, I choice to come here. Stacey was determined to come here and drag you back but I wouldn't allow it." He admitted. He moved closer and took my hand. "And I'm glad it was me who came here. We have missed you and we have a plan to get you out." He pulled me into a hug. We were there for a while until we heard a cough come from the door. We broke away to see Bill standing there.
"Are we going to train or not?!" He complained. He sighed and stormed off. Austin and I followed him outside where we saw my dad and Linda waiting for us.
"About time!" My dad exclaimed.
