It’s Friday and I’m still off school. Most people would love to be off school but as for me, I’m not most people. I can’t text Stacey, Jaz or Drake as they’re in school. ‘Ugh, I’m so bored!’ I think to myself. I go to sit at my piano to see if I can do something productive. I end up sitting there staring at the music for hours. I was forced out of my trail of thought by a knock at the door. I moan and drag myself to see who it is. It’s probably Justin as he probably forgot his keys.
“Justin,” I call through the door, “remember your keys because one day…” I open the door “I won’t be able to answer!” Standing there grinning was Drake.
“Oh hey, sorry I thought you were”
“Justin? Yeah, I could hear. Came to see how you were doing” He said grinning. He hates his dimples but he knows that I love them. I couldn’t help smile and look down.
“I’m better now thanks.” I smile from eye to eye. “Would you like to come in?” I offer. He looks at me differently than normal.
“Um, I can’t sorry. I have somewhere to be but thanks anyway. See you Monday yeah?” He says as he starts to leave. My heart drops.
“Er yeah! Have fun!” I call out whilst he carries on walking. He turns around and smiles. I wave at him just as my phone buzzes. It’s Stacey.
How are you?? I hope your better because you have no choice but to come to school on Monday!!! I know what will cheer you up…..SHOPPING! You, me and Jaz then afterwards, we can go to the beach! So I’ll pick you up at 12:30 tomorrow, see you then.
Shopping…I can’t shop for my life! This ought to be good.
“Cassie!” I hear my mum call before I close the front door. I lean against the door post to hear what she has to say.
“Just spoken to your Dad….” She starts.
“No.” I say before she even has the chance to finish. She sighs.
“He wants to see you. That’s great! Isn’t it?” I roll my eyes.
“Since when was I Justin?! He the one that you should ship off to Dad.” I moan. She tilts her head and huffs.
“He’s coming over in 2 weeks to see you and that’s finial!” She says whilst passing me and tapping me on the head. Ugh, why me?
By Saturday morning, my mum were having an argument like a ping pong game. Justin hid away in his room and I felt really sorry for him. Just like Max and Dad, my relationship with my mum is horrific! I’ve always pointed the finger at my mum for the reason why dad left and then, I started to have my issues. Mum can’t cope with me by herself and it went from bad to worse when Max left.
“That’s it! I’ve had enough! I never asked for this and if I ever had the choice, I wouldn’t have picked it. You just wish that I left instead of Dad!” I shriek. I regret saying it as soon as the words left my tongue. I just see the colour of her face run away and her heart just freeze. She opens her mouth as if she’s about to say something but I don’t want to hear it. I turn on the balls of my feet and scramble out the house. As soon as I slam the door behind me, I breathe in sharply. I must have stopped breathing at some point. I run down the driveway and look around. No sign of Stacey. I look at my clock, it’s 12:00pm. She’s never early. I flip out my phone and quickly text her.
Pick me up from Drakes instead, mum was doing my head in!
I start to head down to Drakes. I consider myself lucky to live near him as when everything started to go downhill, he told me he could be my shoulder to cry on. I use him less though now as we’ve drifted apart. It may not seem that way but, he was my best friend before Stacey and Orlando. Drake met Orlando when they were 14 and they’ve been like brothers since. By the time I get to his place he’s already sat on his porch steps with his phone twiddling in his vine like fingers. I fake a cough which makes him look up.
“I knew you’d come here!” He said as he got up.
“What do you mean?” I question.
“Your mum just called my mum! You’re in trouble!” he jokes “But, it’s good to see that you’re better. Andy and I made a bet if you’d come here or go to Stacey’s…I see I won!” He chuckles as he says that.
“God dammit Cassie!” I look up to see Andy in his window calling down at me. I have to shade my eyes due to the blinding sun.
“You’re just jealous that Drake knows me better then you do, Andy!” I teased. Andy is 2 years younger than Drake. You never would have guess that they were brothers. Drake is lanky with long brown hair whilst Andy has short, spiked up hair and isn’t as tall…yet! Andy comes outside to joke around with us. Lost in the moment, I didn’t realise that Stacey had turned up.
“Joke around later, we’re going to be late at meeting Jaz there!” She calls out.
“Yeah,” I say whilst getting up, “I’m coming! See you later?” I say to the boys.
“Even better,” Andy suggests, “Why don’t we come to?!” I look at Stacey. She shrugs. I look back at them.
“The more, the merrier"
