Gethen's POV
TW: pretty much PG version of de/th and weapons
I sat on the floor. Legs crossed, head down. My reserves were almost full, and soon everyone would pay. All I had to do was wait for the signal and win the game.
Suddenly, I heard Fintan's voice blow through my head. Detonate. I grinned. It was go time.
I pushed all of the mental energy out of my mind, and imagined the force being strong enough to topple the castle. The castle quivered. In less than ten minutes, it would be history. And the Lost Cities would crumble along with it. But that was necessary. Improving the world takes sacrifice. A sacrifice that the Black Swan refuses to make. It's a pity that they put so much into a cause that would never win. And with that, the castle shook again.
A white, electric bubble formed around me, signaling that Ruy was prepared for any falling debris. The castle quivered once more, slightly harder this time. Shortly after, I heard goblins enter the prison, discussing their fears about a prison break. About how they thought they could stop us. But there was no way they could win. No way they could end something that had already begun.
I grinned evilly when the castle trembled hard enough for dust to spring off Ruy's force field.
This is what we want. It was all coming together. And soon I would be out of this horrible place. And be freed into a brand new world that we could shape however we'd like.
I was about to leave my cell when I remembered something: the sword. I remembered myself telling Oralie, wouldn't it be ironic if someday I used that blade to chop off your pretty head? I smiled. It was time for people to take my threats more seriously. It was time to show them that we were the ones to fear. That our games are the ones that win.
I channeled my strength to my arms, and in one hard tug I pulled the sword from the stone. Then I ran.
Along the way, I met up with Brant, who ran along with me. We were almost out of the castle, and the excitement and adrenaline pushed me to run even faster. But when we rounded the corner, I found myself face-to-face with Councillor Oralie.
"Going somewhere?" She raised her eyebrows.
My brain screamed for a way to escape. Then it came to me.
The sword.
Wouldn't it be ironic if someday I used that blade to chop off your pretty head?
I raised my weapon, about to make good on my threat...
Then I stopped in my tracks, sword by my side. Mr. Forkle had come. And I couldn't move. But something about it felt... rather familiar. A memory came to my mind, and it looked like it took place in a Forbidden City. But before I could look at it further, a scream brought me back to reality.
Brant charged toward Oralie, but Mr. Forkle shoved him aside with awfully good reflexes and strength for someone who looked like an elderly human.
The castle rumbled again. Then the ceiling crashed down on Brant. I ran to help him, but it was too late. Brant was gone.
But two could play that game.
I spun around, raising the sword in the same motion. Then I stabbed Forkle and ran as fast as I could out of there.
I arrived at the beach, where Ruy, Fintan, and Vespera all waited for me. We had executed the plan perfectly. A grin stretched across my face as we glittered away. The Black Swan would be the ones scrambling now. And this was proof that nothing could stop us.
