Gethen's POV

"Is everyone packed and ready?" Fintan–who had nominated himself as Trip Master– called.

I zipped the last of my summer clothes into my suitcase. "Almost!" I grunted.

"My Noxflare, can nobody be at the door and ready in a timely manner?" Fintan grumbled. "It's bad enough that Dimitar is still taking his time at 'thinking over' my requests. Now my own members are slow at performing my tasks!"

"Your members, Fintan?" Gisela asked. "You know as well as I do that our members are here to live in a world without oppressive rule." She raised one eyebrow at him.

"My leadership is anything but oppressive, Gisela. And now is not the time for such an argument. We are going on a vacation where we are going to enjoy each other's company."

Gisela opened her mouth, only to be cut off by Alvar tugging his suitcases down the stairs.

"Let's go on vacation!" he cheered, followed by chants of "Vacation! Vacation!" from Trix and Umber.

Gisela's POV

We rematerialized at Candleshade. It was nice and quiet, perfect for camping. I don't know where Cassius was, but he wasn't there. Keefe was........ no idea. Probably at the Vackers. Soon enough he'll realize that he's lucky not to be one of them. Maybe then he'll thank me for all my hard work.

Candleshade would be our first stop before heading to Ravagog. I decided we needed more peace than the huge Dimitar-Debate that Fintan counted as bonding time.

"What are we doing here!" Fintan grumbled.

"I thought we might have more peace and planning time before Ravagog," I answered.

"Dimitar would do exactly what we say," Fintan snapped. "There is no reason to plan!"

Was that really what he thought?

"Dimitar doesn't like you," I reminded him.

"You're just jealous because Dimitar likes me better."

I laughed. "Please."

Alvar interrupted by clearing his throat.

"Isn't the point of this to get along?" Alvar reminded us, patting us on the back. "Let's eat. I'm hungry!"

"You won't be hungry once you find out what we're eating." Trix grumbled. "Is there a way to brainwash the gnomes to be on our side?"

"Or Fintan could learn to cook," Gethen suggested with an evil grin.

"Why me?" Fintan grumbled.

"You're the leader, after all."

"No he's not!" I yelled.

With that the ground rumbled, and orge guards popped out of the ground, followed by the ogre king himself.

Dimitar smiled, "You're late. And I don't like to be kept waiting."

-Chapter 2-

Gethen's POV

"Dimitar," Fintan said, plastering on a smile. "It's so wonderful that you came!"

"Save it," Dimitar growled. "This was not the meeting place we agreed upon, and you know it."

Finan was shaking like a leaf, almost hyperventilating.

"Do you know how long I have been waiting for you on my throne, only to see you camping!?"

"Um...." Fintan started to sweat.

Fintan's POV

I know that on the outside I looked un-shaken, but we could not lose this deal. It was the difference between being like a Noxflare and being a charred slice of mallowmelt. But I would not be defeated.

Gethen's POV

We needed a plan. Sure, the idea of Fintan dealing with the likes of Dimitar was laughable, but if we wanted to win, we needed the ogres on our side.

"Say, Dimitar," I started to say, "Would you like some mallowmelt?"

Gisela glared at me.

"Who do you think I am, Gethen?" Dimitar roared.

"A Noxflare!" Finan proclaimed unhelpfully.

Gisela covered her face with her hands. Maybe the genius idea of offering mallowmelt was a mistake. Or maybe Gisela is just easily aggravated. It makes sense. It must have been a side effect of living with Cassius.

Dimitar scoffed, taking me out of my mental vacation.

"I don't know what's happening here, but clearly you weren't prepared for my visit." He turned to one of his guards and sighed. "Maybe this partnership was a bad idea."

"No." Gisela interrupted. "I don't know what has gotten into these two, but they are not usually like this. Maybe they're intimidated by your awe-inspiring leadership."

Fintan and I both gave Dimitar dazzling smiles.

He did not smile back.

"Fine. But you're coming back to Ravogog with me. Maybe some prison time will help clear your minds."
