🎃Halloween Night🎃

Gethen's POV

"I'm sure you're wondering why I called you here today," Fintan announced.

"Not really." someone—Brant—coughed. Fintan ignored him.

"I was thinking," he continued, "and I thought that if we are conspiring to destroy the humans, we must come to understand them. And one of the best ways to do that is by participating in one of their holidays. And guess what today is?" He paused for dramatic effect. "Weenhall."

Weenhall? What was Weenhall? I was about to voice my question when Gisela beat me to it.

"Weenhall?" Gisela asked incredulously.

"Yes, Gisela. Weenhall. It is a human holiday in which people dress up in costume, knock on doors, and get candy." Fintan informed her. I had to say, the mention of candy caught my attention.

"I hope they have ripplefluffs." Brant said wistfully, and I silently agreed with him. But around us, the other members of the Neverseen seemed to be having some larger revelations.

"Did you just say costumes?" Umber raised an eyebrow.

"I was just getting to that. Alvar just came back from the costume shop, so we all shall have costumes!" Fintan proclaimed with open arms. They fell, however, when a chorus of groans filled the room.

"Look how funny they are! Look, Goblins!"

Some of the members smiled, but the others still looked unimpressed.

"Goblins?" Ruy repeated.

"Are the costumes necessary?" I asked.

Fintan frowned. "I thought you all would be excited!"

Once Fintan finally convinced everyone to wear costumes, he held a blue crystal to the light and we all lept away to the Forbidden Cities.

"I didn't think it would be this... busy." Trix muttered as he surveyed the streets.

"Yes," I agreed, straining to block out all the human's thoughts. Why were they so loud?

"Look, Neverseen," Fintan whispered conspiringly, "The best way to understand humans is to talk to them. We should go knock on some doors. Plus, there's the bonus of getting candy if we do so."

After a hearty agreement, we reached the door of the nearest house. A human opened it.

"Happy Weenhall!" Fintan said cheerily.

"We came for some candy," Alvar added.

The human—very rude human, might I add—made a face and closed the door in our faces almost immediately.

"Hmm." Fintan said, scratching the back of his neck. "That was unexpected. Maybe we should try another house." Everyone nodded in agreement, so we set off for the next house.

"Wait," Alvar said, "Is that decoration... us?"
Sure enough, in front of a house was a decoration of a cloaked figure with the Neverseen's iconic white eye on the sleeve.

"Are we famous?" I asked.

"We must be," Fintan agreed. "But be sure to look indifferent. We must not be recognized."

So, we all walked towards the door with our heads down, trying to look as unsuspicious as possible. But before we got to the door, we were stopped by a bunch of teenage humans. Alarms started going off in my head. This would not be good.

"What kind of costume is that?" one of them asked, eyeing us up and down.

"Why are people your age trick or treating?" another added.

"Um... um... I don't know!" Fintan said in a rush to get the words out. "It's Weenhall!"

"Weenhall? Is that a joke?" another teenager piped up. Fintan started sweating visibly in his goblin costume.

"N-n-no." he answered. "W-we just wanted candy." The teenagers stood for a second and suddenly burst out into laughter. Fintan slowly started inching away like the humans were wild Gogodons.

"Hey, where are you going?" the teenager in the front said.

"Home!" Fintan said. With that, he turned and bolted, all of us following behind. We didn't even check to see if anyone was looking when we held our crystal to the light and lept away.

🎃The Aftermath🎃

Fintan's POV

I had been pacing the hideout for what had seemed like hours. The teenagers must have seen us leap away—they must have. . I had zero ideas, and the other members weren't thinking of anything either.

After my 150th pace around the dimly lit room, I had an idea.

"How about we recruit them!"

Gisela scoffed. "Do you really want them on our team?"

"They're humans!"

"Exactly."

"It's actually a decent idea," Trix said.

"Thank you!" I exclaimed, happy someone would take my side for once.

Gisela frowned. "Fine. Let's vote."

We held a vote, and after I won, we all went to work on a slideshow to present our ideas to those humans. I also assigned jobs so the presentation could be given as smoothly as possible. Ruy had the most important one: making sure the door was locked so nobody could enter or exit. After they'd seen us light leap, the damage was already done, but we did not need any more humans walking in and finding out about the Elvin world. Ignoring Gisela's constant reminders that I might be doing even more damage, I continued on my journey to success. Because I knew I would succeed. After today, the Neverseen would officially be partners with humans.

"I'm sure you've wondered why we called you here today," I began.

"More like forced us here today," a disrespectful human grumbled.

I continued like I didn't hear him. "We have decided that our secret organization must be open to humans as well. How lucky are you all! So, we would like you to get familiar with the world of the elves so you can figure out if you want to join us on our heroic journey."

"I'm sorry, what?" one of the humans narrowed her eyes. "Are you crazy people?"

"We should get out of here," another human added, fear evident on their face.

I cleared my throat. "No matter. I expected this would happen."

"Did you?" Gisela said beneath her breath.

"I am not crazy." I carried on. "I am an over 1,000 year old elf, and this is a disrespectful way to speak to your elder."

Instead of being impressed or amazed like I had expected, they instead got even more freaked out. How were humans so hard to impress?

One human got up to rattle the door, which was supposed to be locked. But clearly Ruy abandoned his post because the door opened and the teenagers hurried out like the room was on fire. I turned to my fellow Neverseen members, anger and shock making me unable to lift my jaw.
