"So... why are you with him?" Erlind asked in a slurred speech. Nakaupo ito sa backseat.
"Kuya and I had dinner at his restaurant. Then you called. Atticus offered to pick you up." Diretsong sagot niya.
"Bakit hindi si kuya mo?" Nakangising tanong nito.
"His girlfriend called."
"Hm." Bumaling ito kay Atticus. "Bakit ang bait mo na 'ata sa kaibigan ko ngayon, Atticus?" Bigla nitong tanong sa lasing na boses.
Mabilis siyang napatingin dito. Wala pa man pero alam na niya kung saan papunta ang mga tanong nito.
"Erlind..." She said her name in a warning tone.
She just grinned. "What? I'm just asking." Patay malisya nitong sagot.
Napatingin siya kay Atticus. "You don't have to answer that. She's drunk."
The sides of his lips curled up. "I don't see why not."
Her eyes widened.
"Oo nga naman, Sesh. Why not nga naman, di ba?"
She groaned internally. "Just sleep peacefully, Erlind. Malapit na tayo sa bahay niyo." Mariin niyang turan.
"Hindi pa naman ah..."
This time, she almost groaned outloud! Can she just smash Erlind's head against the window so she could have peace through this ride? Dahas na kung dahas!
"So bakit nga, Atticus?"
Dapat pala nagpa-book na lang siya ng ride nito sa grab!
"Well, because I've been an ass to her and I want to change her opinion of me."
Natigilan siya sa sagot nito. "You're not an ass." Sabi niya.
He looked at her sideways. "I've been an ass, Sesha."
"Yeah, he was an ass, Sesh." Erlind seconded.
"Let's just forgive and forget. Now why don't we end this conversation, hm?" Kalmado niyang sabi.
But she should have known Erlind will never follow. Napakadaldal talaga nito!
"Alam mo, sayang Atticus eh. If you were only nice to Sesha before, eh di sana, baka kayo ang mag-jowa ngayon."
"Erlind!" Hindi na nakatiis na sigaw niya.
"What? I'm just saying." Erlind said unapologetically.
Nahihiyang bumaling siya kay Atticus. Wala itong imik habang nagmamaneho.
"I'm sorry. Ganyan lang talaga iyan kapag lasing. Kung ano ano ang sinasabi."
Hindi ito nagsalita. Tila malalim ang iniisip habang nakatingin ng diretso sa daan.
Napabuntong hininga siya.
