Alone.

Being a loner was seen as the lowest point you could get in high school, you're seen as the social outcast and the one that's so bad not even the weird kids could tolerate you. But for those who are the loners, it definitely had its perks. There's a long list, but the top three reasons are as follows:
You can do as you wish,
There is no pressure to act or be anyone else,
You're left alone.
It was quite simple. It was amazing to be a loner at school, and for Mondo that was exactly how he enjoyed his time spent. Alone. Sure, maybe the reason he's classed as one is more likely on the side that he has broken the law and successfully gotten away with it and has such a terrifying demeanour that no one had the guts to approach him, but nonetheless he was still put into such a category. But he enjoyed life that way, and he was happy for it to stay like that.
His brother on the other hand was not.
Mondos brother, Daiya, decided that he didn't want him to spend most of his school days by himself, because even though he was less of a hothead compared to Mondo, he was still equally terrifying, if not more so, yet he still easily made friends and was able to have acquaintances during his school years. So made the choice, on behalf of Mondo, to change his schools in order for him to actually make friends, and even if that plan was not successful, in all honesty that school he was already at was a bit of a shithole so at least Daiya was sending Mondo to a better school.
As you could likely guess, Mondo wasn't all too happy with this decision. He both felt like he was being babied just a bit, as well as knowing this plan was going to more than fail. It was half way through the school year during the second year of upper secondary education, all that was left was the rest of the year and the year after and then he was done with his education as far as he was concerned. It wasn't like he could have done much however, except maybe tell Daiya to piss off and then cuss him out a few times.

Regrettably, Mondo ended up going to this new and supposedly better school. As he walked through the hallways and navigated the school, he could hear whispers from all around him, which consisted of a mixture of "Woah do you reckon that's the new kid?" and "Oh my fucking god look at that losers hair." And Mondo hated both equally. Once he finally ventured through the hallways to his new classroom he would sit in day in and day out, he was immediately stopped by the teacher, who was annoyingly cheerful. She made him introduce himself to the rest of the class. Mondo was going to protest as much as possible, until he saw some of the same kids that were in the hallways mocking him. Oh how he loved the horrified look on their faces when he said his name. Mondo was less known by face and more by name and association of the biking gang he led, which was the most infamous illegal biking gang in Japan. Mondo was extremely lucky that he had rarely been arrested and when he was he was bailed out almost immediately so it really didn't matter that he was so well known as he couldn't get any repercussions he couldn't deal with from it.
He was eventually allowed to navigate his seat where he sat next to some really scatty and energetic looking kid. Within just a few minutes, Mondo was already getting annoyed by this guy who clearly had something on his mind, so he decided to bite the bullet.
"What?" Mondo asked, extremely curtly.
"Hm? Oh me? Yeah what?" He asked, acting almost like a puppy.
"What do you want?" Mondo asked while rolling his eyes.
The guy sat in thought for a second, as if he already forgot what was on his mind just a few seconds ago.
"Oh right! I was just gonna tell you about things you should probably know about here! But it's more than totally fine if you don't want me to."
Mondo was already starting to regret choosing to sit where he was, but he was curious to know the ins and outs of the place so he tried to find the silver lining of the situation.
"Sure, enlighten me," Mondo said, sighing slightly.
"Great! Well those kids sitting at the front they're your typical bullies... but I'm guessing you wouldn't really have too much trouble with them."
Going by the facial expressions they just pulled Mondo couldn't help but agree.
"Then over there in that corner," He said pointing to his right, "Are your typical popular girls who think they're something special for having a thousand or so followers on social media."
The types of people Mondo hated.
"Then over there," He said pointing to his left, "Are your weird kids, but the nicer kind who just have a conflict of interest rather than those jam packed with cringe."
The only clique Mondo could tolerate.
"Then over there," He said, pointing behind Mondo, "Are the weird kids who are actually cringe and weird."
The types Mondo hated to be in earshot with.
"And where do you fit in?" Mondo asked, curious to see where he placed himself.
"The first lot of weird kids," He said.
Mondo just gave a slight nod, not exactly interested in who these people were, until he noticed that the boy seemed to miss something.
"Who's that kid by himself over there?" Mondo asked, pointing behind the boy.
Sitting by himself was a boy who was intensely focused on his work, and Mondo could guess almost immediately he wasn't too liked due to the seat next to him and the seat in front of him being both empty.
"Oh yeah I forgot about him. Don't worry about him, you don't wanna befriend him, there's an unspoken rule that you leave him alone, and the best part of it where he's such a rule follower he accepts it! How amazing is that?"
Well, Mondo didn't plan on befriending people, but he hated rules, so he was more than willing to befriend someone if it meant he could break a rule.
"So, why is he left alone?" Mondo asked, with genuine curiosity.
"Well, firstly look at him, he is so fixated on work it's annoying, and also, remember that politician Toronuske Ishimaru? Yeah that's his grandson, who would wanna befriend someone who's related to him?"
Mondo hated that kinda thing, being put into some kind of box purely because of relations to someone else. So even if this kid was a bit of a rule follower, everything being said was fuelling him to want to befriend him more.
