The First Day of School

The first day of school, an infamous day sought out by schools, advertising companies, parents, and teachers alike. Today's my first day of middle school and for the first time ever I'm excited, a new school, a new start, new people, and new possibilities a new life away from my rebellious antics and abusive parents

A couple of months ago the idea of thinking like this would be followed by a laughter of my own stupid thoughts and a night of self harm caused by even thinking so in the first place.

Oh how things have changed for the better, here unlike where I'm from in Jefferson City the schools are all in the same block in this tiny town about 6 hours away called Bloomfield, Missouri, (authors note: it's a real place my mom's from there and unlike in the story the closest Ikea is 3 hours away so don't take anything I say except for my description of the school physically looks from the outside as truth)
Bloomfield's a tiny town for sure and I haven't met much of anyone yet.

Since all of the schools are in the same block we parked in the parking lot which is used by the entire school and mom walked in with me into the middle school while dad walked into the elementary school across the street in a rainbow tie-dye t-shirt, khaki shorts and tennis shoes, mom's wearing a business casual piece in a grey fit blazer, matching dress slacks, a nice purple top, and black heals, while I'm wearing black ripped jeans, a black ACDC Tshirt and a red zip up jacket. As mom walks me to my homeroom I realized how small the school really is, unlike in Jeff City there's about 100 kids total spread throughout 5-8th grade all the elective classes are all grade despite age and experience, there's about one teacher for any given subject and the PE coach coaches all the grades and does football while other teachers coach the other 3 sports which are basketball, volleyball, and cross country

"Ok, so these are your classes" mom pointed to the schedule "in this order, this is your lunch, this is your locker and this is the number, this is your lunch pin, this is your computer email and password and this" mom said pulling me into her arms, "is a hug, have a good day, I love you"

I smile, "I love you too"

"Now I have a meeting after school with a possible therapist for you so walk to your dad's classroom and I'll see you when I get home"

"Ok, bye mom"

"Bye max"

I turned to walk to my new class and as I turned the corner I ran into this 8th grader and knocked all of his things out of his arms

"Hey watch it nerd"

"I am so sorry, are you ok?"

"Oh, OH! Am I ok? A pipsqueak just walked into me and he wants to know if I'm ok?" He laughed turning to the rest of his friends

Just then mom turned around the corner, I guess she wasn't outside yet, "yes you're ok now leave my son alone or I'll make sure you repeat the 8th grade for a fourth time Mr. James"

"I didn't know he was your son, sorry Mrs. Park"

"It doesn't matter if he's my son or not, leave people alone"

"Yes ma'am,"

"Go to class, all of you" the three turned around to go to their classes

"Are you ok max?"

"Yea I'm ok,"

"Just be careful, I'll see you later, I love you"

"I love you too" and then I went to go find my class

After school

When the final bell rang I grabbed my bag and walked out the nearest exit dad's school was on the other side of the building ... Dammit. So I had to walk around the school to get to dad's school. I need to remember to walk through the school to go out the nearest exit

When I finally got to the other side of the building about 2 minutes later

I walk into the front office walking past the teachers in pickup duty into the building, "hey mom!" I say looking at the burnt umber skinned woman at the front desk

"Hey bud, do you remember where dad's classroom is? I'm a little busy but I can walk you to him"

"I remember, love you"

"I love you too hon, see you in a bit, I'll come pick you up if dad isn't done with his work when I am and we can go to the park or mall until he is done"

"Ok, see ya"

The walk to dad's classroom is a short one but the stairs I got from the anti-white-guy-with-a-colored-kid people was hard to ignore, but soon enough I was in my happy-go-lucky father's classroom,
"Hey dad!" I said to the ginger at the table

"Max! Glad to see you!" He said looking at me "I have to finish putting stickers on these all about me sheets I have my kindergartners to show I graded them when there is no point in grading such personal work, so if you want to help you totally can, they're all going in the top right corner"

"Yea I can help"

My work with dad wasn't too hard, grab a sticker, place said sticker on paper, not too hard, and it wasn't too long either, with his 27 students, with the both of us it took no time, since he already had like 10 done when I got there,

When they are at home

We got home about an hour after school ended and dad unlocked the door, mom expected me to go shower and get into PJs soon so we didn't have to do it closer to bedtime which made sense, when I was freshly bathed I walked down and sat on the couch and turned on the TV, dad came down later and sat with me, I turned on my favorite TV show which is Rick and Morty and dad made a lighthearted "I see where you get the language from," joke, mom came down too and started on dinner

Since living with the BEST PARENTS IN THE WORLD I have learned how amazing of a couple they actually are, mom cooks Saturday, Monday, and Wednesday  while dad does it Sunday, Tuesday and, Thursday while on Fridays we go out to eat or get takeout and dad said if I wanted to learn how to cook I can find a recipe and we can all work together and make that on any Friday I want! It's amazing

They compromise on everything, mom wanted a certain side of the bed to sleep on, so dad chose witch sink was his in their bathroom, dad wanted a tea bar so mom made a coffee bar next to it so it was a coffee and tea bar and dad said I can put an assortment of hot chocolates there too so it's our own hot drink bar we all share, if they can't decide what they wanted to eat for dinner together they scratch all of their ideas and go to the supermarket and we all get our own tv dinners so we can eat what we want

Today was Monday so mom cooked she made an amazing potato soup with bacon and ham on the side so we can choose the protein to soup ratio of our dreams and she also put cheese next to the proteins

God she's an amazing cook

I am going to love it here
