When I return to school, at the gates as if waiting for me, Adrian Ong, dangling off a pillar high above me.

The thought of him falling off dramatically comes to mind immediately, rather unkindly.

I pretend not to take notice of him and walk forward but he calls out my name and I am forced to stop.

"Aayushi Ahuja." He says, with a smile on his face.

It's a smile full of mischief and empty of malice.

I try not to look too annoyed, "Adrian."

He laughs and tosses a small item that I am unable to identify in the air before catching it swiftly.

"You are back."

It doesn't sound like a accusation, merely like a comment. I don't reply.

"You weren't here yesterday." He continues.

"Uh yeah." I say blankly.

He smiles, "Just one day, and your darling best friend got in trouble already?"

My stomach lurches with exasperation and fear, "What trouble?"

"Started a fight in math class." He says, combing his hair back, "She didn't fight even. Just started it and smiled the whole time."

I choose to ignore this, "What are you doing here?"

He looks at me in mock sorrow, "Rashly accepted a dare from my dear friends."

I shrug, "Get better friends then."

"Perhaps, but I would say that you should go and look after your own." He comments.

I am tempted to get up there and punch him but instead I call, "Why must you bring her up in everything?"

Adrian doesn't reply, only smile back some more.

I wrinkle my nose, "Okay fine, I get it, you hate her. She scored better than you in English didn't she?"

His smile only grows.

...

When I enter the classroom, I see Artemis immediately, talking animatedly to Athena and Giselle.

I walk over and they look up immediately, and I spot Artemis give Athena and Giselle a side eye and they stiffen up.

"I already know." I say, rolling my eyes.

Giselle and Athena relax immediately but Artemis widens her eyes innocently, "Know what?"

I smack her arm and she laughs in protest.

Class starts and Adrian isn't there yet, but it's not that I really care. He is a smart guy, teachers think he is a responsible person but in reality he is also a cunning and mischief- seeking person. He is also kind of annoying.
