"No, I am not getting married to anyone." I say,
annoyed, as my father surveys me from across the table. It is early morning, and I already feel pissed.

He pauses and puts down his mug, taking a deep breath, "Aayushi, I also don't want you get married but you don't have a choice."

"Of course I do." I say, with a bored air, checking my fingernails for dirt. Such a pity I can't remove dirt from my life as easily as I remove dirt from my fingernails.

"The leader of The Meliones," My father says with a aggravated air, "He isn't a random man you can turn down, Aayushi."

"I know that," I say, jerking my head to meet his eyes, "But I'm not getting married to anyone.  Leader or not. I am only sixteen."

He glances at me desperately, "Aayushi."

I force myself not to reply, but I know he has every right to worry. My father just doesn't want me to face the wrath of the leader of a very prominent and dangerous gang.

Unfortunately for him, he has an extremely stubborn daughter who'd rather die than marry a random old man.

I stand up abruptly, and grab my jacket, and his eyes are worried, following me as I stand, "Be careful, Aayushi, don't get in trouble."

"I won't." I reassure him, and moving to hug him.

He sighs, "Aayushi, reconsider the marriage. Please. I know you hate that idea, but they might come after your mother, your brother, your family  if you anger them."

I stiffen instantly. He brought up something that he knows that would change my mind out of everything else. I hate how valid his point is.

"Are you saying I do this for their safety?" I frown, drumming my fingers on the table.

My father glances at me with a anguished look, "For yours as well.  You have to understand, they might do so, and I can't force you, but you have to take this in account."

"I don't want to marry him but-"

"I don't want you to marry him too, Aayushi, trust me. I'm only afraid for your mother's safety, your brother's safety, your safety."

I raise an eyebrow, "Not yours?"

He shakes his head, "I am a father, I am a husband, my family comes before me."

At his words, I feel a stab of something that I cannot explain. I hate that I am being selfish, but I know my concerns are valid.
