I'm tired so i'm just gonna get right into the story.
Will's POV:
It's my first day of highschool and i'm fearing it most. Not because i'm worried about friends. It's because my dad forced me to try out for the basketball team. For some freakin reason tryouts are 2 hours before school which is a shitty thing to do because I have to shower and shit. I don't do sports. I'm just not that type of guy. I like watching people play sports and all but me in it? No. I get to school and it's still dawn outside. The cool breeze swept over my hair as I walk to school. I'm dressed in the most basic basketball shoes, shorts, and a hawkins high shirt. I walk over to the feild and see the coach. Damn it, I was the first one there. Now i have to make small talk. I walk up to him and set my water bottle down.
"William Byers. You can call me Will." I say as i give him a firm handshake. Coach seemed very happy with my first impression. I really didn't want to make the team to be honest. But i couldn't help that when I hit puberty over the summer my testosterone went over the roof and I became like super strong. That's like the one thing I get to flex about I guess. I sit down and wait for everyone to come. Everyone else already all knew each other.
"Ok the majority is here so let's take role call." Coach says. Everyone including me says here.
"Micheal Wheeler?" Coach asks.
"Here. And you can call me Mike. Sorry I was kinda late, I didn't realize the time." I hear a voice behind me. I turn around as the grass tangles around my shoes. What I saw was astonishing. A pale-thin boy with beautiful black hair and freckles. Also pretty tall.
Coach smiles as Mike Stands next to me in the circle. None of the jocks said Hi to him like they did with each other. Maybe he's like me. I glance at him as the sun slowly rises and you could see his dark brown eyes shimmer. Coach told us to go run 5 laps which I knew would kill me."So William right?" Mike asks as we jog side by side.
"Just call me Will." I smile. He nodded.
"So are you good at basketball?" I ask.
"Eh, I'm ok because of my height but i'm better at making music and playing guitar." He says.
"Oh sick!" I say.
"What about you?" He asks.
"I'm pretty good. My dad made me tryout but I've been playing for a while." I said.
He smiled and we jogged a couple feet until we got done. I quickly grabbed my inhaler. Oh yeah I have asthma too. It's just great.
We all go into the gym and grab a basketball.
"Ok so now we are going to practice layups. Just go and if you don't know what a layup is you can walk away." Coach said. The other guys laughed and Jason who was the team captain last year started to walk away jokingly. They all looked at me and Mike confused at why we weren't walking away."Mike, you can go first." Coach said. Mike grabbed a ball and ran up to the basket, layuped, and dunked the basket. Everyone looked at eachother in amazement. He quickly dribbled back to coach and handed him the ball.
"Mike... you're like really good at basketball." I said.
"Don't beat yourself up. You haven't seen me play against people yet. I don't know shit." He laughed.
A couple hours later came and we were finally done with basketball practice. We all had the exception to go home today. Mike and I started teo walk home together talk about our similarities. Turns out he's a nerd too.
"Will do you maybe wanna come over to my house? I have a basement we could just hang out and stuff." Mike asked.
I had butterflies in my stomach in this moment. I mean Mike was everything. Perfect, Handsome, nice, funny, nerdy. I struggled to say anything.
"I guess I could. Yes I would love to." I blurt out. He smiles as we start walking to his house.
"I've got to go to a pay phone. My mom will electrocute herself with the phone if she doesn't know where I am." I smile. Mike gives me a couple quarters and I spit one nearby. Mike all of a sudden holds the phone for me as he leans against the wall that the pay phone was vaulted on.
"Yes of course. I know Ms. Wheeler, you can go. But make sure to come back before dark before your dad finds out." Mom says.
I hang up the phone.
"Why would your dad care?" Mike asked.
"He's just bothered with me." I say. That was a lie. I came out to my family a few years ago and my dad slammed doors, punched, hit, the whole sha bang. I don't want Mike to know that I'm gay though. I don't know what he would think of me.
"Hey Will I gotta question for you..."
