Ponyboy was jumped by a group of Socs, and he yelled for help. The gang heard his cries and came running over to help. Madelyn and Johnny watched as the gang fought the Socs, before rushing over to help Ponyboy up.
Madelyn - along with the rest of the greasers - absolutely hated the socs, just because they were rich and important to the community they got away with everything, white preppy shits.
The gang chased the Socs back into their cars and threw rocks and tree branches at the car as it sped away.
Dallas and Madelyn walked over to some cars leaned against them, while listening to Soda tell Ponyboy to concentrate on girls and cars because it worked for him.
"How's the kid?" Dallas walked up to the group. "I'm fine," Ponyboy said, his voice shaking slightly.
"Yeah? And what are you doin' walkin' by your lonesome on the street?" Steve asked, his voice laced with anger.
"It's none of your business, smarty." Ponyboy put his hands in his pockets.
"What do you mean, none of my business? It is my business. Look at my nose!" Steve said, moving forward as Soda stopped him.
"It's huge," Ponyboy said, trying to lighten the mood, but Steve was not amused. "Smartass. He is a smartass kid," Steve complained, frustrated with Ponyboy's attitude.
Dallas lit a cigarette and walked around the guys, greeting them before making his way over to Johnny. "Hey Johnny, how you doing man?" he asked, concern etched on his face.
"Things would be a lot better if the socs stayed on the south side of town," Johnny replied, his voice heavy with exhaustion.
"Now don't you worry about that Johnny because we're gonna have it out with them sooner or later," Steve said, his voice determined.
"Sure as hell we are if they keep coming onto our side of town," Soda chimed in, running behind them.
"Damn right," Two-Bit agreed, nodding his head in agreement.
Dallas stopped walking and turned to face Johnny and Ponyboy. "Those the same guys that got you?" he asked, his eyes narrowing as he looked at Johnny's scar.
"No, no other guys," Johnny replied, his hands in his pockets.
"I'm going to make it my business to get the guy who did that to your face," Dallas said, his voice laced with anger as he lifted his finger to Johnny's scar. Madelyn watched as Dallas talked.
Madelyn turned to Ponyboy, while sharing Dallas' cigarette. "Pony, you still good to hang out today?" she asked, her voice soft and gentle.
"Yeah, I'll be fine," Ponyboy replied, trying to hide the pain in his voice.
"I was thinking, how about you and Madelyn come over to game with us tomorrow night?" Steve asked, turning to Dallas. Madelyn perked up when she heard her name.
"I wanna go," Ponyboy said eagerly. "Oh, we're taking Evie and Sandy," Soda added.
Madelyn felt uneasy whenever Sandy was around. Sandy often gave her strange looks or ignored her, and Madelyn had learned to avoid her as much as possible.
However, Evie was a different story. She had always been friendly to Madelyn, and they had even hung out a few times in the past.
"Which means no kids allowed," Steve said, looking at Ponyboy. "Big deal," Ponyboy replied, annoyed with Steve's comment.
"No, no, no. I'm gonna go hunt some action. Kids are allowed," Dallas said with a smile, looking at Steve before turning away.
"Man, we'll go with you, won't we, Pony?" Johnny said, following Dallas. "I don't know, Dall. I can't get in any trouble with the cops. Darry said the court will split us up for sure if I do," Pony replied.
"Hey, who's looking for police trouble? I just wanna go see a movie like the good old days, right Johnny?" Dallas blew smoke in Johnny's direction and hit him on the back.
"Yeah, man," Johnny tried to convince Pony. "I was planning to put down six packs of Bud, but if I don't get too drunk, I'll come and join y'all," Two-Bit said, walking towards the black car.
"You guys wanna give me a push start?" Two-Bit asked, opening the car door. "Not really, but we will," Ponyboy said, rolling up his sleeves and walking behind the car with Johnny. "Alright, let's go," Two-Bit said, sitting down.
Dallas and Madelyn watched as Johnny and Ponyboy gave Two-Bit a push and drove away, yelling, "See you guys later!"
Dallas pushed open the front fence and leaned against it while Madelyn stood behind him. Ponyboy got called in to do homework, and Johnny left on his own. "See you guys later," Madelyn smiled, walking away with Dallas.

Later in the day, Madelyn and Dallas met up with Johnny and Ponyboy and walked to a diner. They ordered milkshakes, but the boys complained to the waitress about the taste of them.
"Oh, shit," Madelyn said before jumping off her chair.
"Hm?" Dallas looked at her curiously while spinning on his chair. "Last one," she said, pulling out a cigarette and lighting it with his necklace that she pulled away from his neck.
After hanging out at the diner and complaining about the milkshakes, they walked around the streets and peered into shops.
They walked to a convenience store, and while Ponyboy and Johnny distracted the chaser, Dallas snatched a pack of cigarettes off the shelf along with some gum. "Look what I got you, doll," Dallas said, handing Madelyn the pack while they ran out the doors.
"Aw, thanks, Dall," Madelyn replied, smiling as she took the pack from him.
