It had been a few weeks since Rhaenyra and Laenor's wedding, and for a while it had seemed that life at court was going back to its regular, dull, sort of routine. The only difference was that the Baratheons had stayed on since the wedding, under the pretence of wanting to visit their distant family, but Rhaellanne knew the real reason
With every passing that day that went by without word from Daemon, she grew more and more nervous because she knew that while she lay in her bed every night, the Baratheon men and Alicent plotted down below about ensuring her marriage to Genald
Genald too had become a pain in her side because he was constantly following her and pestering her with questions about their life when they married, which had forced Rhaellanne to resort to sneaking out of her room to the dragon pit whenever she had a spare moment
Rhaellanne was lonely at court. Her father was growing weaker by the day and spent more time in bed then ever, Alicent was conspiring to ensure her demise, Rhaenyra and Laenor were off on their honeymoon tour, and Daemon was still in the vale.
So when the Hand summoned her down to the council meeting room one morning, she was surprised because she had not been around any of these people in ages
"What is the matter?" she asked as she sat down in the seat beside the hand
"As you are aware, the King's condition is...worsening" said the Grand Maester cautiously "And now with the Princess Rhaenyra being married to Ser Laenor, we feel it is time that you too were married"
Rhaellanne sighed "I have already made it clear that if I should marry, it will not be to some Lord who only wants my title. I would marry Daemon in the tradition of my house"
"Unfortunately, the King and Queen have not given you leave for this" Alicent replied smugly
Rhaellanne folded her arms "And where is the King? I wonder. It is improper to discuss such topics without him present"
"While the King is unwell, he has granted me permission to handle his council affairs" she replied
"This is not a council affair" scoffed Rhaellanne "This is just you trying to take control of this family because you know that you are nothing more than a leech sucking on our success"
"You would be careful to mind your words" said Lord Strong "The King could have your head for that"
The Princess ignored him and continued to berate Alicent. "All know it. That is why your father was dismissed. The only reason you are still here is because he enjoys fucking you. Why I have no idea, nor do I care."
"Rhaellanne, this is important," snapped Alicent, flushing furiously "Torwen Baratheon's son Genald is heir to his line, and the Baratheons are a strong, fortunate family who would strengthen our coffers and appearance. Marrying Genald would give us a good ally and-"
"-I am not marrying him!" she cried "You cannot expect to force me down the aisle as my sister did!"
Alicent scoffed "You do not have a choice! As Queen it is my decision!"
"You are no Queen" snarled Rhaellanne "You are a vicious, manipulative, controlling, bitch who wishes to see her son on the throne and will destroy the Targaryen family to do it."
Standing up from her chair, Alicent cried "How dare you? You have behaved like a spoilt, entitled brat these past few years while your father and I strived to find a good Lord to marry you. We have worked hard for you-"
"-I did not know that flaunting around in pretty dresses and doing nothing all day counted as hard work!" exclaimed Rhaellanne, standing too
"You will marry Genald Baratheon within the next fortnight and you will not disobey the Crown or else you may be stripped of your titles-"
