AN: The first oneshot of the book, and it's theme is none other than Hollow Knight, possibly one of the greatest indies I've ever played like, ever(besides Ori of course lol)! My favorite Hollow Knight boss/husbando Nightmare King Grimm doesn't exactly have a lot of content asides from the lovely fanart and amazing covers I've heard of the track, so have a oneshot about NKG and his adoptive vessel daughter Ruby(she's one of my vessel OCs!).

She was just cast out by the Wyrm when we took her in. She didn't have a home, a name, or a family to love her. We found her in Dirtmouth, weak and cold. We couldn't just leave the poor child to freeze to death with how cold the town was at this time of year, and there was something about her that I liked. That first encounter with her just changed my life forever.

Our ritual had came to a close, so back to the Nightmare Realm we returned. It was a quaint place that bordered the Dream Realm where Radiance dwells. She's kind of my biggest rival due to some of the rivalries we've had over the past few years. What do you expect? She's basically the one that the moths worshiped. I've told my vessel the story of Radiance and the rise of Hallownest and its king. Every story intrigued the vessel.

The troupe also got along with her very well. She enjoyed Brumm's music, the playfulness of the Grimmkins, and Divine's conversations. The Nightmare Heart had given the vessel the power of the scarlet flames that induces us all in this never ending ritual to keep the heart stable. She was now one of us, and as we bonded, she filled the void that was once in my heart.

"Daddy?" she asked me as we overlooked the always sunset sky in the Nightmare Realm. "Yes. I'm your daddy," I replied to her. She giggled, and told me this: "I love you." It gave me feelings of every kind, making me even more happy to have this child with me. I looked into her eyes and said, "I love you too, my little Ruby." She loved the name Ruby. I'm glad she did. Now me and Ruby will forever share these wonderful nightmares together as a family.
