Chapter 19

Varian's POV

~flashback~

"I have an younger sister...?!" I exclaim, Prince Kearin and I stopped playing as my dad had wandered upto us with the news.

"Yep." my dad smiles. "And her name is Nya."

Nya... She's only just born and Kearin and I are only 5. I can't wait to meet her! And Maybe Kearin could meet her too! Daddy wanders off, so Kearin and I continue to play.

The kingdom was full of screams and I'm scared. I huddle by the King's throne as he and the queen defend against the snake people. Kearin sits next to me, holding his lion plush. His dragon, Ember, lay lifeless a few feet away. Kearin was crying and shaking so I try my best to calm him down. The throne room doors burst open and my daddy races in.

"Daddy!" I cry as I grab Kearin's hand and race over.

"Varain! Kearin!" He gasps as he wraps us both in a hug; his moustache tickles my face.

"Ray!" came the King's booming voice as he and Queen Savannah race over; both covered in ash.

Queen Savannah fires fire from her hands, as did my dad, as the king thrusts his sword towards the snakes; all three creating a barrier around us.

"Grab The Prince!" One hisses but the Queen shoots them down before creating a tall wall of fire around us.

Kearin suddenly gets picked up and my hand slips from his own. I look at him with fear as he looks down at me; trying to grab hold of my hand again.

"Varian..." he whispers.

I try to grab his hand again but my dad takes him as the king does something that causes my friend to pass out. He drops his lion plushie so I pick it up and give it to the king, who puts it in a satchel and hands it to my daddy.

"Stay close, Varian." Daddy tells me as he slips the bag over his shoulder. He cradles Kearin against his chest and we race off once the fire wall is lowered.

We run out and, just as we get to the door, a large pillar of stone falls and blocks me from my dad.

"Daddy!" I scream. I've cut my leg and there's a big gash in it. It hurts and I want my daddy. "DADDY!"

I keep trying but he doesn't respond. Where's my daddy?!

"Varian!" came a voice. I look back and see King Aaron race over. "Where's Ray and my Son?!" I point and he seems to see something I can't.

A snake charges at us and the next thing I know, King Aaron has got me in his arms and his sword is pointed at the enemy as fire shoots from his sword. I try my best to hold onto the king as I bury my face into his chest plate.

I dont know what happened next but when I open my eyes, the King has me in his arms and we're in the village. I look around and see people with wings, tails and animal ears and features; some even turning into animals. I look at the king and he's got a sandy coloured tail on his lower back and matching ears on his head.

Queen Savannah comes into view and she has matching features. I'm let to my feet but I cant help but stumble. I fall to my butt and look behind me to see why; I've got a red tail with white stripes. I reach my hands up and touch my head, only to feel round ears. I grab a piece of my hair and notice it to be a matching red with a white streak.
